Why do guys at my school stare at me?

I’m new to my school, this is my first year here. I’ve noticed that recently, as in the past couple of weeks, a lot of guys have started staring at me more, and I’m not really sure why, if for a good reason or a bad reason. Even when I’m like right next to them and talking to my friend or just walking down the hallway, they full on stare at me in the eyes, and I never look back at them but it makes me kind of uncomfortable. It’s guys who are considered to be more on the popular side too, and who I don’t really know that well. On the flip side though, there are some guys which I get the impression really don’t like me or have something against me, again, I don’t know why. If it helps answer the question, a portion of the girls in my grade also don’t like me, which I can see by the way they act towards me (hostile) leading me to feel like they might be spreading rumors about me? I’m not really sure though.
