We’ve been chatting back and forth for week now he asked if I wanted a family one day and asked if my parents were still together.
he told he does and said he has very traditional values and he’s an “old soul”, pretty private person and if he dates someone it’s to build a life with that person and as “a man you hit a point where you want to share your life and build a life with someone you deem your better half.”
i just don’t know if he’s BSing me or if he is genuinely being honest and wants these things

Hmm that's definitely an interesting thing for him to bring up so early on! On one hand, it could be a good sign that he's seriously looking to settle down one day and likes that you seem family-oriented too.
But at the same time, talking about wanting a "better half" and building a life together after only chatting a week does come across a bit intense. Makes me wonder if he's trying to rush things or come on too strong by bringing up long term commitment stuff so soon.
I'd say keep chatting with him for sure, but maybe try taking a little step back too just to get a better read on him before taking anything he says too seriously. See how he acts over the next few weeks - is he able to go slower and get to know you better as an individual too?
Make sure you're still enjoying each other's company and have good conversations, not just him constantly blathering on about forever stuff, you know? Talking values is good, but watch for any red flags of him trying to rush or control things. Proceed with caution sis!
I think he is probably being honest, possible he is not don't get me wrong but I think he is. I honestly think these things should be talked about early on. Too many people are in a relationship for a year or more than they talk about starting a family and they are dividing. They just wasted all that time when if they started with that they could have ended before they began. I don't know if I would say it like that but those are similar things I would say in the first few dates or if we are chatting back and forth.
