Do you feel happy when you see your old dates in a relationship?

So… There was this cute guy who traveled a country to meet me, we clicked but as friends, he was nice, but not my type of guy.

He was handsome, cute and all, I just didn’t feel passion towards him, he brought me his designed Present,

We had a dinner and sat by the lake and chatted for hours.

It was a beautiful day.

He told me I was the first foreigner girl he went on a date with and that he was amazed how great it was to be by my side.

I knew I’d never see him again, cause I didn’t feel that connection.

When I said goodbye, I left, not looking back, I walked about 300 meters and looked back, just because I had a good time and because I knew that was the last glance I’d take of him and I’d never go out on a date with him again.

He texted me “I saw you looking back, I felt happy… I was waiting for you to look back. I had a wonderful time and hope to meet you again soon…”

“I told him I had a great time and maybe in future we’d meet again, but I wasn’t interested in a long distance relationship.”

So, he has texted me a few times afterwards but after I declined a second date, he got the hint and finally stopped texting.

Sometimes he’d just text to ask how I am.

Now I saw his pic with a foreigner girl, looking all happy and handsome and I kind of felt happy for him.

Last time we talked he was lost, and now he seems like he has found his happiness again, I was feeling a bit guilty for not giving him a chance and now I feel so relieved to see him happy.

Exes, if I heard more about them, I wish they would grow up and could see the damage they inflicted, their issues causing their problems and they would start making good choices. I wish them luck, but admit if I was more in their lives, it’d be like watching a train wreck - I don’t wish that on them.


There’s a part of me wishing they would hit rock bottom enough to change their lives instead of continuing to make bad decisions… but there’s also a part of me that hates to see them making stupid decisions repeatedly that make them (“surface”) happy for the moment (instant gratification / “bandaids” that don’t HEAL anything) but make them more miserable in the long run. I hope they can figure out how to be happy in a good way, not just “Oh, I jump from boyfriend to boyfriend quickly (or sleep around) to mask any reflection or sadness from a previous breakup” I wish them luck. So no, I’m not happy for them at the moment, because I know they’ll hurt themselves, and jump into something new or sleeping with a bunch of people just to badly mask their issues.


There’s no real jealousy if I DO hear they’re in new relationships because knowing how they behave, this is their second “boyfriend of the month,” and it will be over basically the same ways ours were. They’re crappy relationships, which I’m not interested in. So boyfriend number fifty since we broke up makes me disappointed. I wish them luck and happiness (but know it’d take more sense than they seem to have). I’m not in competition with them.

I haven't seen my ex in over a decade and once we broke up I never saw her or talked to her again.

Usually the person dumped, who still wanted the relationship to continue will not like seeing them with someone else. The person who did the dumping and hurt the other person is usually happy because the hurt they caused has kind of passed because the person they dumped has someone new.

It depends. Sometimes I pray for the girl because I know what she’s getting into with the ex, but that only applies to one or two people. Generally speaking, my guy friends/exes are all amazing people so I am genuinely happy to see them have someone in their lives who can share the life they want to have. It’s not me for a reason and we’re still in one another’s life just not each other’s universe, you know?

I just don't feel anything at all. I am not sure if that is normal though. I am just indifferent.
It feels like seeing a stranger, I don't know how to explain it properly.

I guess you feel happy for him because you didn’t have that chemistry that attracts you to someone even knowing he was a nice guy and now relieved because he found someone that liked him for him. I usually don’t feel that way about someone, I would probably feel envious in a way since I never let someone good get away if I can help it

It depended on how we parted. For just about all of them except one. She turned 18 and discovered the power she had over men. I was 25 and already messing around with her. August 31 she hit 18 and like flies to a pile of 💩 guys came from every direction. Flowers constantly and all the requests to date. She was a gymnast so naturally she was smoking hot and dropped me like a bad habit. Picked a fight with one guy and she slapped the crap out of me. The only bitch that ever made me cry. I mean balling outloud.

If I just dated them once or twice I wouldn't even care about them anymore. They would just be a stranger. I have people I talked to for months and when I seen no reason to talk anymore, I don't really check in or care what they are up to in life. I suppose when I was younger and actually liked people I would feel happy for them, but now I really don't care about anyone anymore and I am sure it is vise versa lol.

To be frank? It doesn't make me happy to see them coupled while I am not. It makes me think: "they ruined a perfectly good thing we had together and they're still rewarded for it while I am willing to sacrifice so much and get so little in return. Fuck them."

I'm not in contact with my ex or others I'd started casually dating. But I'd be happy for them. I don't hold any malice, they were good people. My ex had some views on parenting that we clearly weren't aligned on. She miscarried so thankfully it didn't matter in the end

Wow so definitely don’t date foreigners. You’re supposed to root this out pre-travel. Poor guy. That’s a good lesson. With western women Becoming Undateable this is another choice that guys are making. I’ve been thinking about meeting some Filipina girls. I definitely wouldn’t for this though.
