I've never dated a narcissistic person. I'm just asking the question because it has become popular online to diagnose other people with all kinds of mental illnesses just because they might not be that into you. I understand it's a much more interesting story if you got caught up with someone who seemed cool but turned out to be mentally ill, than if you're just dating out of your league and they had more attractive options hitting them up on their phone. But we shouldn't throw these words around too much :)

Yes but maybe no. In my case it certainly seemed narcissism but after we broke up I realized she was selfish over things that gave her relief from past trauma and a lot of that narcissism behavior was to do with holding herself together from the trauma.

So while it seemed narcissism to me at the time - hence the YES. However the well spring of those behaviors was past trauma.

Still couldn't work other than as a friend. I have stayed as one.

Yes but just one date with her. I saw through that BS right away. She thought she was the gift to humanity and she thought that you had to prove to her that what you were doing in life was worth your keep. The lady who I met her through eventually kept her distance from her also.

Not exactly. He had severe issues with empathy and emotion, though he wasn't a narcissist. He told me he would feel nothing if we broke up, because 'there's no point being sad over something that was never meant to work'. But he cried when he dumped me, and ending up trying to get me back, months later.

I think the issue was he saw everything so logically, that he forgot he even had emotions to begin with

Yes, I dated a narcissistic borderline. He had every single one of those traits in that photo, and more. I honestly don’t wish this on my worst enemy. Worst hell I’ve ever been through and I am still recovering 8 months later. We also still have to work together. I pretend like he doesn’t even exist.

Wow that sounds bad. I know a few people with bpd and they can do some crazy things even without narcissism. I hope you can recover from it :)

Dealing with somebody with non treated bpd is hell. They never know what they want, extreme mood swings, one minute they like you the next they don’t, they shit talk you behind your back.. these people do not deserve to be in relationships or have friendships until they get help. Yeah, it just took a while to shake off the toxicity. I like to live a “silver lining” kind of lifestyle, so having someone like that around all the time, gaslighting and never taking responsibility for his own actions… it put a damper on the real me. Now he’s long gone and I’m really happy. :)
