When is good time to follow up with guy to check if date is still on?

So this guy and I have been texting few times a day. He always initiated texts and we have had great conversation. He shows his liking towards me quite openly. He asked me out 2 days ago and the first date is today evening. It’s 1am of the day of the date right now where I am. we were texting till about 8pm yesterday. It was going really well and then he didn’t reply around 8pm. My last message was lighthearted so nothing controversial that he could have got offended over. I’m assuming he got busy with something. It’s now past midnight and I’m getting doubts. When should I follow up with him, if he doesn’t reply in morning, to check if date is still on? I was thinking, if he doesn’t reply by noon, I’ll send follow up text around noon because date is at 6pm. What do you suggest?

I usually confirm a few hours before the date and that's with both friends and guys back when I was still dating... I was never ghosted before an agreed date but if I were, I'd need 2-3 days of abrupt not replying before I'd just not show up without letting him know. In your case I wouldn't worry about it just yet, see how the date goes.

This is a new thing. When I was dating a guy would call or find you and ask you out -- you'd say yes and he would show up at your doorstep at the appointed time. There was no app or followup text or crazy calendaring reminder/RSVP junk... which frankly takes the romance out of the prospect of a date before you even meet up.

If you MUST send a mid-day text, then fine, do it, but personally I don't see the point. You've made the date... it's set... why pester?
