Is it valid to be upset that my boyfriend gave me earrings that were meant for a different girl?

My boyfriend of 7 months kept telling me how he got me earrings and he hoped I liked them. I later found out he bought them for his girlfriend of 4 years while they were dating but they broke up before he could give them to her. Between them being broken up and him giving them to me he kept them in his closet. Is it reasonable for me to feel a little upset about this or should I grow up and appreciate it?
