I lost my current position at work and now looking for a new job. I don't want to stay where I'm not appreciated. I worked as a librarian in a public library and now applied for a scientific library. When I told my friend that, he told me that those people are going to change me. I asked why does he think that, and he only answered that I'll see. It didn't sound like encouragement that I can become a better person being around highly educated people. It sounded more as if he is accusing me of becoming a bad person. At the same time, he knows how bad I felt at my old job, and how mistreated I was. It sounded to me as if he is afraid he won't be good enough for me anymore.

Okay. I don't know anything about your 'friend', but he could be jealous? Is he a work colleague?
Anyways, I hope you get the job, it sounds like it would be superfun to work in a scientific library!
He's not a work colleague. Thanks for your support I do to think it would be fun.
Could he be jealous, or am I imagining it?
I think it was jealousy. Is he afraid that I'll find other friends and he won't be interesting to me anymore?
Is he or does he want to be more than friends?
I'd say he is more than a friend, just not sexually. We never had sex.
It sounds like he may want to be more to you than he is now.
I thought he is afraid that he would be replaced, that I would find someone more interesting there. But I thought of it from the friendship side only. Not that he doesn't want me to replace him as more than that.
I think its time for a chat. Layout how you view your friendship. And ask him what he wants from you.
You're probably right.
Good luck! Let us know what happens!
