Why do you think think there are higher rates of depression in people who choose entertaining careers?

Like sports broadcast news anchors have one of the highest suicide rates

Bar tenders have one of the highest rates of depression

In Comparison:

Personal trainers have one of the highest rates of job satisfaction

Before climate change, farmers also had high rates of job satisfaction

Computer programmers too, they are one of the least depressed people out of all the employees who work professional jobs

I think that work is like health care for your soul. The people I know without jobs became mentally ill unless they had unpaid jobs like mother or house cleaner or language learner etc…

My grandma tried to learn a new language at age 96. She was productive until she died even though she retired at 65 - She was busy at domestic labour with her kids by cooking and talking to us.

I think it has to do with the fact that the job is a popularity contest and it's about appealing to others. That kind of profession, to me, is a recipe for disaster for anyone who isn't self-possessed. It's very easy to find your self-esteem triggered because people don't like what you do... hence don't like you.

I'd also say that it could be because what audiences see is a persona and not the person. Imagine how you'd feel if people didn't see the real you but what they projected on you.
