Have you seen any good movies lately?

I went to see “Monkey Man” yesterday and enjoyed it a great deal. To oversimplify it, it is Indian “John Wick”. So if you like that type of action movie, you’ll enjoy it. It also offers some interesting characters, cultural exposition and mythology that i enjoyed more than a little. Separating it from other popular films in that sub genre.
I also went to see “Alien” 45th anniversary theater release. That movie is SO good! It’s rare for scifi to hold up after a few years. “Alien” remains brilliant after nearly a half century!

I've watched and really enjoyed MONSTER by Hirokazu Koreeda. Might not be for everybody and it's definitely no mainstream film, but it's a very interesting way of telling a story from different POVs. It's never what you think it is and there are little plot twists that make each one really compelling. Just when you think you know what's going on and judge the characters for it, everything turns around and you question your own assessment skills.

It basically starts with a mother, who's son is allegedly bullied and physically abused by his teacher, but the truth about what's really going on is slowly unravelling the more POVs we get to see - as I said, not for everybody. It's not really Arthouse, but close to it. Beautiful and impressive, though.

Monkey Man was the last one I saw too. A friend kept insisting I go with him as I am a huge John Wick fan.

Calling it "Indian John Wick" is an insult honestly.

The movie almost gave me a brain aneurysm. The the pacing was all over the place the action was inconsistent, even the music was bad.

I can understand it being a lot more relatable to indian folks as the cultural themes are strong but to a non indian audience it was a drag sitting through parts of it

And the story [spoiler] really boils down to something very basic: kid has his village burnt. He makes a calculated move to kill the government members responsible, succeeds but at the cost of his own life. [End of spoiler]

I'm excited to see the new Apes movie and also the Amy Winehouse biopic

monkey was too slow. the training part was choppy to hint long training but could've used the dry time to stretch that.

gold beak was amazing quality blending many elements into one film, drama, challenges, adventure, various emotions, a bit of action , many dangers n many surprises!

maybe a skilled team maybe some visionary weaving 5 a. i. suggestions into one but skillfully!

I felt similarly about the training sequence. I get the feeling that the filmmakers probably decided against a 2.5 hour movie and cut mostly the recovery, training and dream sequences. None of that really fit or made sense in the end. I liked the slow progression though. I can’t relate to what’s going on when they jump directly into violence from get.

The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. It was so good!

I saw the remake of Roadhouse. I did not expect much but it was actually pretty good.

Were you late to the party?
I was telling everyone who would listen or read what i wrote that that was THE movie to see when it was still new in the theaters. I easily rated it among very few sequels that i think surpassed the original.

Guess I was late to the party I really did enjoy it and that's saying a lot because for me I don't like many modern movies. Probably cuz it was they stuck to the basics and didn't put the work BS in it like a lot of trash nowadays. It would be when I would like to get the DVD of. But with that being said I still can't go as far as you and saying it surpassed the original. Kind of like Jaws 2, to me it's a solid sequel I like it... But the original still the better of the two. Just my humble opinion
