7 Reasons Why I Believe the Younger Generation Is Incapable Of Raising Kids

Before we start, I must say I don’t want to have kids. Not only because personally I consider them a burden, but I understand that I am not the type of person to raise kids. I couldn’t afford them.

Anyway, when I read youngsters here saying I want to have kids one day…I just laugh. I feel like, How someone as young as you can raise kids? You are a kid yourself too.

The reasons are:

1) Bad taste in music

You might find it weird that I included this reason here, but for me this is a big issue. I really despise the music most young people listen to. It has no soul, no substance. Our parents were listening much better music, so they used to play this music when we were babies. Now young parents will play these crappy artists they listen to, and the baby is forced to grow up with this music. You might say, but music taste changes as we get older. But actually, what you ignore is, that the music that you listen to as a baby, is clearly a subliminal thing.

2) Girls Will End Up Raising Their Kids On Their Own

Chances are it will happen sooner or later. You wanted a kid? Now learn how to raise it, on your own and only on your own.

3) Mobile phone addicts

Is it possible for the young generation to put away their phones and raise their kids? I don’t think so. Phone comes first, and it will always be that way.

4) Social Media Pictures

This really gets me. ­­­If I saw stupid pictures of myself as a baby, uploaded in some silly site like Instagram, when I grew upI would feel really ashamed of my parents. Something that many young parents do today; they take a funny picture of their baby, then upload the picture on their Instagram, and laugh about it with their Instagram friends. So serious, right?

5) They are not serious people

When I read comments of the type I’m one month pregnant, I’m two months pregnant, etc. and they post their pregnant pictures…I really wonder how such people can raise kids. Stupid, just stupid. Imagine finding out pictures of your mother doing this. How would you feel?

6) They need time to spend with their friends

Yeah, they are young people. I understand. But it seems like today’s youngsters want to spend more time with their friends than any other generation. Our parents’ generation were more focused on raising us, than spending time with their friends.

7) Wrong Choice Of Given Names

Parents these days make the stupidest choices you can ever imagine. They name their kids even after some video-game character. And such a person wants to be a parent.

Looks like I'm in the minority because I agree with this take.

I'd also like to add that the lack of stay at home moms is problematic too. Not only does feminism brainwash women into thinking they're worthless unless they put work and themselves before family and shames those who don't; even the women who don't buy into that nonsense and want to stay home with their children can't do it because it's so hard today to get by on one income when trying to raise a family.

There are exceptions to every rule, of course, but children, especially as new borns, are best off being raised full time by their mother.

1) So you think we all listen to the same music? If you're referring to the Top 20 list, you'd be surprised how many young people DON'T listen to that stuff. Every genre of music was called trash when it was popular. If anything, I think my generation is rather creative when it comes to music, but a lot of people do not know that because they just think we are all top 20 and tweets. 2) Girls? Women. I will not be a girl when I have my kids. Women have been left to raise children for as long as they've been having them so I don't think this is any different. 3) I do think there is definitely a problem with the digital age, but I don't think that makes us incapable, not everyone. But addictions exist everywhere, better than swinging broken beer bottles around and blowing smoke in their faces 4) Those pictures are everywhere BECAUSE they're stupid, not because everyone's doing it, many are fine keeping the flash off their kids. Pictures exists before, there are plenty of pictures before social media that definitely weren't the classiest/safest. 5) I don't see a problem with women loving their pregnant bodies, which many women do feel very in love with their bellies at this time. Women are learning that showing their bodies should no be shameful, so I see no issue. My children will know that. 6) People didn't have friends before? People have dinner parties, cookouts, playdates. Kids don't equal having no social life. 7) Really? People can name their kids whatever they want. It's their kid, you didn't make them so your opinion on that doesn't matter. Not everyone wants a classic name.
I have no problem with people who don't want kids and I don't think you need a reason for not wanting them, it's your life, you don't owe anyone a reason. I just think your reasons were so irrelevant, so many other things you could point out but you went will ones that are no big deal. Like names? Who cares? That being said, I don't think people who want to have kids should irk you that much. This seems like more of an issue with millennials, rather than them becoming parents. For many, parenting is very instinctual, people want whats best for their kids. People change, people grow up. They make better choices, they change their lifestyles, this being said, I just don't think they matter. But it's your opinion.

I grew up on 60s doo wop personally. So that wouldn't be in the book anyway. Much more R&B, few black families listen to that genre. But I like indie music a lot. I don't really think that controls someone's personality. Plus, people change. Your kids won't know that at all, you don't know who a person is just through some songs. Also so what? They can listen to what they want, whether you like that genre or not. That's stupid. I have a unique name, there are very few people with my name, and you know what? I got over it, and learned to like it and didn't get stuck with Sarah, Katie or Alison. Nothing is wrong with those names but I prefer my unique one. What you have listed are preferences. Taste in music, addiction to mobile phones, and naming children do not necessarily REFLECT the parenting that is to be done.

A 'younger' generation is subjective. For instance, a person born in the 1900's belongs to a generation younger than the ones born in the 1880's. Are you, perhaps, speaking of the generations younger than YOU?

Technically, the babies that will be born in the future will always comprise a generation younger than us. If that's your standpoint about the 'younger generation', then your points are not applicable to the infants.

From my point of view, I think thus far the behaviors go round in circles in that a more liberal generation was potentially raised by a generation raised by more conservative parents, and that more liberal generation will in turn end up raising more conservative children or grandchildren because humans - in general - tend to want to correct what they think was wrong in their own upbringing.
Like fashion, it's just a recycled behavior, so to say. You're the example of change already.

I also don't think this generation behaves drastically more different than previous generations before it, except that we have other means (e. g. the Internet, cellphones, etc.) whereas in the past they would find something else to spend their time frivously. I mean, ignoring your children or showing them off around town, or showing yourself off, is not a behavior particular to this generation alone.

While I agree with all of your points to varying degrees, I can't imagine the whole generation will be bad parents- I think lots of them will mature when they realise they've created another living human- but perhaps the number of bad parents will increase?
It's not like any one generation has been amazing at raising their children anyway.

I'm from your generation, and I want children. Do I want them right this second? No. But I want kids, I've always wanted kids and I plan to have them when I'm established in life. A couple of years doesn't mean you're from a different generation. I can clearly see your age, you said you're almost 25. You're part of generation Y meaning the millennials. Generation Y consists of people born between 1981 and 2000.

As I've already stated nothing you said applies to me. Will I take pictures of my children? Of course I will, they're my kids and I'd love them. Does that mean I'd post them to social media? No. I don't even post my own pictures online let alone those of my kids.

I agree a lot on this. It does depend on their maturity level. It seems more and more of those that are younger are not mature enough. Yes, there are some 40 and 50 (and even 60) year-olds that are immature. But there are not that many compared to the younger generations. There's more and more teenagers and 20 year olds (some 30s) that do not have the maturity to raise children - at least correctly. But a big reason why is that they weren't raised properly themselves by THEIR own parents. It's a vicious cycle that we must stop in order to turn this world around for the better. I'm not saying all teenagers and 20 year olds are immature - just more and more of them are. We apparently don't seem to have any good role models for them to turn into productive adults in our society.
