Why do some women act territorial over their friends? I have never seen guys claim one best friend, Is this more of a female thing?

I know some women are joking when they say certain things but I have seen some women act territorial towards other women (not me) in real life and on facebook over their best friend.

And some act like a person can not have more than 1 best friend?

OML you described my ex-bestfriend lol. She was a really great friend too me. We did everything together, like EVERYTHING. But she always seem to be upset/annoyed/jealous or catch an attitude with me if I had other plans with someone or was invited somewhere without her or just doing my own things. I started to avoid her because I didn't like how I felt suffocated around her and how passive aggressive she was becoming. I didn't cut her all the way off because I was scared and way too nice at the time. Long story short, she actually laid her hands on me (hard shove to the wall) out of frustration from my lack communication and dryness with her. That was it. I blocked her from everything and move along. It's been a year now and we are juniors. She still gives me death glares and talks bad about me too people. Good riddance!

A few years ago, my best friends were twins, two girls. For the longest time, we had problems whenever one of us hung out with someone else. The friendship became toxic and complicated because they were very possessive, among other things. I made the decision to cut loose.

I don't fully understand "we" tend to have a problem of possessiveness. I've had it, I've known plenty of girls who have it. What I know for sure is that since I realized that how unhealthy it is and how much it can affect me emotionally, my life has changed for the better. I'm sure it's the same for you and that your friendships are healthier now.

Ugh I had a friend like this. It's one thing to be "cutely" territorial, as in, protective and wanting to look out for your friend and keep them from harm. Then there's just straight up possessive and not wanting your friend to do anything other than hang out with you and only you 24/7 and getting insanely jealous and passive aggressive when they do have other friends/interests outside of you. The former is sweet, the latter is psycho.

Insecurity if they don't have many friends, or is close to just one person. They don't have other people to have an outlet with. Especially if they don't fit in, constantly bullied and mocked by others, or is very introverted and shy. Some people can't make new friends. Its more difficult for women than it is for guys, unless he too is very insecure.

@Asker We attach very easily and were emotional in some and in many ways. We value the emotional connection we get from other girls. Men don't do that. Maybe few do, but they primary function in their male bonds is loyalty and respect.

there's no difference between friendship between sexes. it depends on the personalty of the person. friendship is healthy for everyone. not everyone cares bout it some care too much.

@AriadneSky Actually there is a major difference. For males they are not going to be as emotional as we are. Because loyalty is a sense of action. Not emotion. Men think using logic. We use emotional connections by feeling, then decide to take action if it feels right. Men have to prove their worth to other guys. Women are more inclined to relate to things that emotionally effect them. If not, your either too weird or a stranger to them. But when they feel the same, they grow excited and feel they made a new friend.

Yes friendships are healthy and personality plays a part. But, not all friendships are. Some can become very toxic if you have people who are miserable and handles the relationship wrong. Either way, for some people it's difficult. Even for me it can be difficult to make friends. And not just with anybody. People I can relate to. Not superficial. Or people just don't want to be friends.

I don't know, i think the emotional attachment comes into play. Like dont touch what is mines. I can't act like I've never felt territorial over my friends but its more of a " thats my bestie bitch".

I'm territorial around most my friends, but that's more about I don't want them hurt or hanging around the wrong people. Either way I do have one best friend who knows literally everything about me and I her. I'm not like she's my friend not yours, at the same time though, she'll always be my best friend and I'll always be hers.
