Is it okay for parents to kiss their children on the lips?

There has been a conversation about this topic for a few weeks based on Victora and David Beckham's affection towards their children.

I think because I was raised in a not so physically affectionate home, this can look kind of weird to me. I hugged my mother and kissed her on the check when I was young (and now) but never on the lips. I was never really affectionate with my father. Hugs and kisses were kinda rare in my household and were used only for special occasions. If I have children, I will probably be more loving towards my children but not to the point of kissing them on the lips. I understand why parents do it but at a certain age, it can look weird.

What do you think? Do you think this is normal or gross? Is this/was a norm in your home and would you kiss your children on the lips? Also, do you think this is affecting children in the future?

I've seen people who do that and I tell them directly: Do not kiss your kids on the lips. People don't realize that gum disease, cavities, and almost all oral viral infections are contagious. Your adult immune system might be able to handle it, but a child's might not.

Your lips aren't covered by regular skin: it's thinner and more sensitive, but also more susceptible to infections.

Shower your kids with kisses, but stay away from lip-to-lip contact!

As s health care provider, I'm trying you: DO NOT kiss your kids directly on the lips.

I remember my mother did it to me once or twice as a toddler, and when I was 11 we did it accidentally.

But only as recently as 3 years ago, even as I was in my 20s, we shared a kiss on the lips when I surprised her with a necklace with her name on it.

It might’ve been weird to see from another point of view, sure, but we were alone & I don’t regret it as we obviously love each other and what mattered to me was how excited she was. So long as it’s not sexual, I would condone such gestures between family members if the reason is appropriate

My parents gave me kisses on the lips until I was about 6. I thought only those kisses were 'real kisses', because they were the mom and dad kisses. They switched to forehead and cheek kisses when I got older. I think I won't do the lip kisses myself if I'd be a parent, but cheek and forehead kisses wouldn'r be a problem.

My mom always gave me a good night kiss on the lips. It was never weird to me, and I never got sick as some have stated could happen. I grew up this way, turned out okay, so I see no harm in raising your child this way. There's a HUGE difference between incest and an innocent little peck from your mama.

I think it's a fairly normal thing? My parents never did it and it certainly squicks me out but that's how some people show affection and it doesn't hurt me so if people wanna do that they can go ahead.

I grew up with a pretty affectionate family. my parents kissed me on the lips till I was 5 or 6. to me it isn't weird for parents to be that way. just don't include tongue haha

This is just a weird question and the comments are equally strange. It's your mother. The woman that raised you. How on earth could it be weird or repulsive or wrong to kiss her on the lips? There's nothing sexual about it. I'm 19 and I study in another state. I don't see my parents that much but I still kiss my mom whenever I see her. There's nothing wrong with that.

For me its weird. I was raised very cold, never got shown affection or learned to do so. So maybe thats why its weird for me.

I see it all the time. IT's normal. But, I don't do that to my kids. I can recall feeling weird kissing my parents on the lips as a kid and don't want my kids to feel that way.

I think it's ok until the kid is about 5 or 6. After that, it just gets weird.

I think no. Once a friend of my mom kissed me on the lips when i was a kid and it felt really weird
