I left behind my girlfriend (now ex girlfriend) and her nephew during a shooting spree, unforgivable right?

I abandoned her (now ex girlfriend) and her 7 year-old nephew. I literally ran, leaving them behind. Someone else was getting robbed and two guys were shooting in the air (luckily no one was killed nor injured), scaring people. I got so scared and started running.

It's been 4 months since the incident and several people won't let it go. I have to live with that; that something could've happened to them because the last hope they had (me) ran.

I've received a lot of hate (from both genders) when they found out there was a child involved, not just from her family but by others too. My close friend was disgusted by it too. Will my reputation as a coward ever go away? My fb acct had to be canceled for a while.

I guess this is unforgivable right? Will this label as a coward ever go away?

I did reported it and then returned back to the scene. Everything got solved by then but yeah... I received enough hatred by then; even by my own gender.

You’re just going to have to let things blow over. Soon what you did won’t be the topic of discussion because something new will happen. But while you’re still receiving so much hate, you could try and clear your name. Post about it on your social media, go live or something. Then explain the situation, and how your response was more heat of the moment and that you’re sorry for running away when your first instinct should’ve been to protect your woman and the child, or at least made sure they got to safety. Then deal with whatever comes next. I think people will be less mad when they see you taking accountability and being apologetic. They can’t hate you forever, especially when your ex and her cousin are safe and weren’t harmed in the shooting.

I don't get why people are blaming you. She was neither your wife and that wasn't your niece nor your kid. You just saved yourself

It will go away but ur ex and her family and friends will never forgive you so don't expect forgiveness, as for running away when times get tough you should work on thinking about others but yourself
