Is my friend a hater?

I didn’t want to believe my best friend has been hating on me recently, but she’s been acting kinda weird. She doesn’t compliment me anymore like she used to at the start of our friendship, and she puts me down in front of our mutual friends. She seems to hype up all our other friends telling them how great they are/look, saying “you look amazing” “you’re gorgeous” but yet with me she only makes the occasional comment “your outfits sparkly.” I don’t need her compliments but she just never does. And when a guy likes me, she reduces it down to a technicality like “he only likes you because he has a thing for skinny girls.” Or “he only likes you because he likes brunettes.” She just gives me weird vibes nowadays, is she being weird?

I can explain this. I am like this with my friend, and I am not proud of it.

Basically it's a mix of jealousy and feeling threatened. I have a friend who is better than me at basically everything. Long story short, he used to be someone I could see as an equal, but he started getting more and more popular. Finally he started talking about how he's going on with different girls every week and how they all like him more than he likes them. Like DUDE, if there's anyone who knows how down bad I am it's this guy, and he just starts complaining TO ME about how these girls are obsessed with him. He gets enough attention. He also gives me this condescending advice about relationships like "yOu nEeD tO lOvE yOuRsElF bEfOre a GirL cAn." Like I don't need to be there to hype him up anymore apparently. He has graduated from the loser club. I don't feel like he looks at me as someone he has known forever anymore. It seems to me like he's using me to boost his own ego at this point.

Thank you! I admire that you admitted you feel like that though, not many people would. Takes a lot of courage. If your friend says things to make you feel bad then tbh he’s in the wrong too. And it sounds like he is

Sounds like she’s slightly jealous of you or threatened by you. Maybe you should talk to her about her put downs, because that is not on.

I know, I always feel bad after she says them but I try not to show it/give her the satisfaction of knowing I’m bothered. It’s just weird because she’s the last person I would expect to do this

but it doesn't seem like she's a good friend to you. this could harm your mental health, keeping people like this around you. maybe you should just be honest and confront her on how you're feeling
