Who in your family are close to?

For me it's my mom, she's like my best friend and growing up it was technically just only me and her. So for me my mom is the family member I'm more close to

My little sister. I had to look after her a lot since my parents divorced when we were very young and I also had to protect her from my mother who was on the abusive side. I also funded her through her college education since my parents couldn't.

She also became a sponsored vert skater like me. I taught her how to drop in on a vert ramp and do a lot of tricks. I think we became especially close skating together every day after school at the skate park.

Now she's married to a great husband with a daughter. Her daughter looks and acts so much like her. They just moved to Japan this year and only live an hour away now so we can see each other quite often. My wife and I and she and her husband and her daughter all tend to hang out together regularly now.

It's funny how much we think alike. I didn't realize quite the extent of it until recent years! For example, I was hanging out with her and her husband together with my wife the other week and the conversation shifted to the dollar menu for McDonald's.

Then I mentioned that the dollar menu tastes amazing but only because it costs a dollar. If it cost like $3, it would taste so disgusting! My wife and friends always thought I was so strange thinking this way, like how the price affects the taste of food. Then my sister lit up and said she had this exact same argument with her husband and friends! Then we almost jinxed each other by saying almost the exact same sentence at the same time. :-D

That's just one example but there are so many like that. I guess having the same childhood made us largely converge on largely the same ways of thinking about things.

One thing is that while we got fairly close through skateboarding when we were younger, we never got that close. A major difference between us is that she was much younger when she went to the US. So she became adjusted much more rapidly and easily to American culture and ways. I had a more difficult time since it was already high school for me, and I was much more Japanese than her in my mannerisms and ways of thinking.

So I went back to Japan as soon as I could, not too long after graduating and settling into my career which then opened up opportunities to return here and work. My sister stayed behind in the US as an English teacher and we went our separate paths.

But then our paths converged again recently, and it's been many years with the exception of a few events like my wedding and hers where we met and talked so much. Yet I've come to find after these years spent apart that we've converged so much in the way we look at things... even our whole philosophy towards life, and maybe even had very similar struggles when we were on our own as adults.

100% my mom.. We were always close... and after what I have put her through and still here lol... she is my hero... I broke my ankle 8 years ago she took care of me.. before my Dad passed... she was the rock that kept us together. Now she isn't the same as she was before as she is getting older... but she is definitely my HERO

I've always been close w/my little brother. I think if I didn't have my little brother, I would've gave up a long time ago. Our mom is a greedy, selfish, pitiful old lady that believes she deserves credit for taking care of us.. but we didn't ask to be born! lol My little bro has ADHD/Autism so he lives in a group home now since he's 35 years old. He can't manage money very well. But despite his disabilities, my brother taught me to give everyone a chance. All the racism/segregation that goes on in the city I live is pretty sad. My little brother nvr looks at people that way. He's friendly to everyone. A smile on his face and a nice hello!

Definitely my dad :) my best friend and alsoy twin because we are so alike haha. He's been there for me my whole life, whether I knew it or not. He'll never real this, but I appreciate him beyond what he could ever realize. I love him so much and I'm so grateful that he raised me the way he has :)
