So I asked him would he move out but he's talking about fixing his credit. I told him he should probably move away from his dad. His dad was abusive to him as a kid and he moved in with him after highschool because his grandparents were strict. So his dad doesn't really care what he does. My boyfriend gets mad at what his dad says to him and sometimes it's easily. I don't think it's good to stay there with his dad especially at a place that brings back bad memories. My boyfriend claims he doesn't need it even though I see him get mad and he let's what his dad or others affect his mood all day. Even my mom agreed that he should. It's like he's trying to prove something to his dad. I can't force him bit I feel it'll help. What do you think?
Yes, he should definitely go to counselling. He has exactly the sorts of struggles that counselling is meant to help sort-out (processing past trauma, analyzing your feelings about your current circumstances, looking at the best ways to move forward and whatever mental impediments there might be to doing so).
There is no question that this guy would benefit from counselling. The problem is... that he has to be willing. HE has to be brought around to AGREEING that counselling is worth a shot, otherwise it won't work.
That's a tough spot to be in.
