Should I adopt a 17 year old?

I'm a 26 year old over the road truck driver. It gets lonely out here. I want to help people.

I know there's a 16 or 17 year old in public care somewhere who would love to ride in the truck, learn about it, get a license and have a much better chance than they would being released at 18 into this messed up world on their own.

I figure it would have to be a guy because I can't provide the support a 17 year old girl needs.

I have my own issues. I'm broken hearted that the girl I like doesn't want to come with me in the truck. The job is hard, I'm really tired out as it is.

I could really use some extra hands but that's not why I would do it. I wouldn't make him work. Basically I'd find someone who wanted to get a leg up on a truck driving career and plan to ride together for 6 months or a year until he was set up on his own.

I don't know anything about adoption, but I do know about being 17 and stuck in a rut.

Is this absolutely insane? Or a good way to help someone? I don't know anything about adoption, and at the moment it's more of a curiosity/hypothetical than a serious commitment to do this.

I understand it would be a serious commitment, but right now I'm just kind of wondering if that would be a good thing or a bad idea. Maybe a few years from now when I'm more set up in my own life and career.

Money isn't a problem. I could feed us both. But I figure that's the easy part.

Thats the idea. I don't want a child. But I do want to have someone else in my life, romance isn't working out for me, I can't get home to see family.

I see it as potentially a great thing for both of us, but I am not sure how it would go in real life.

as long as you can afford it, its probably a good idea
you're not getting the chance to have children so by doing that you're helping children have a good future
and you'll know when they have grandchildren its almost likely that they wouldn't exist without you or they wouldn't be in such a positive situation without you

Think you're better off starting a family from scratch - as in having a wife who is good mom material and adopting a much younger kid. Of course to influence the kid's upbringing you would have to be around the kid more than once every month or whatever.

But if you don't want to start a family like that then I'd go for OLDER... like a 20 something who is 1000% sure he wanted to become a truck driver before he ever met you. And happens to not have a dad, maybe. But are you going to be able to take it when after 6 months or a year the guy says, 'See you, I'm moving on' ? Cause that's a possibility. You can't control it.

You could also start some sort of school where you teach anybody who wants to know for $$$... and if you happen to find the right student you can choose to form deeper friendships.

I'd rather have a wife come with me or run a house I paid the mortgage on... but it's hard to meet people. I'm set on one girl but she isn't set on me. I don't wanna talk about it.

I do want to have my own kid someday, but I'm in no rush. I don't really like little kids.

The whole idea would be 6 months and he moves on. I'd help him get his license when he turned 18, help him find a job and an apartment and by then I'd be ready to have the truck to myself.

I don't have the capital to start my own trucking school. It's also not the best time, lots of established schools are seeing less students than the past couple years.

If I'm you I would focus on finding a woman who is very traditional minded but no it's not easy.

Sure brother if you feel like being responsible for a child especially one from two random strangers go on ahead usually a lot of people give men shit for wanting to be fathers and I honestly don't know why?

I did mention that it would have to be a guy. Not that there aren't homosexual creeps just as bad as the straight ones... but I think people know I'm straight by now.

My main concern is that I could not provide the emotional and feminine/biological support a teenage girl needs by myself in my truck. Along with that, what 17 year old girl wants to be a truck driver? Probably not many.

And yeah, if I did try to bring a 17 year old girl with me in the truck it would probably raise some eyebrows and not without reason. I'm not a pedophile, but I know it gets lonely in the truck. I can't imagine being a 17 year old girl locked in a box with a strong and handsome man who refuses to touch you all day every day would be a positive experience. For either of us.

After seeing kids on the street I have thought that about adopting before hand but that would be a a thing if I ever hit the jack pot and became super rich.
