Is it weird to have your husband at your baby shower?

Anonymous

My sister in law and mother in law are throwing a baby shower for me in a couple of days. I told them that I'd feel so much more comfortable if my husband comes, it makes me anxious having the attention on myself and I'm at the latest stage of pregnancy where EVERYTHING is hard now.

He was actually really excited to come, but they basically laughed in our faces when we brought it up, and said absolutely not. They laughed at me for being stressed and said they should be the ones who are stressed out. I was in a total panic about it one night so my husband promised me he would come anyways.

Little did I know he just planned on saying hi and leaving for fear of upsetting his mom and the guests, most of which are his family and friends that I hardly know. I told him I feel I need him there, so we phoned his mom today to let her know and she was NOT happy, and now he says he will feel uncomfortable being there. Is it really that big of a deal if the husband comes to the baby shower? Is it not kind of "my" party so I should be able to decide who comes? I appreciate them so much for throwing me a party but it feels like my feelings are completely being ignored.
