Why do fathers get excited when sons date but not for daughters?

I'm 25 and my dad still doesn't want me to date even though I've been on my own since I was 18, and I've been introducing boyfriends since I was about 13. I understood it when I was 13, even if it was annoying but 25? My dad even used to joke when I was a little girl that I wouldn't date until I was25. Well, here I am 25 and my dad still does the scary dad thing when he meets a new boyfriend and then I overhear him talking to my mom about how he doesn't want me dating. Him and my mom were married with three kids by my age. He's always been proud of my brothers for their dates. My older brother is getting married next month, and my dad has never been so happy.

When will he be happy for me and stop with the double standard?

Sorry to hear this story. At times there seems to be favouritism towards males. I don't really know why. I'm bisexual and never gave much thought to gender. But I married a female. We have a daughter who is 11. I was delighted. My dad couldn't give a damn. My youngr brother is the favorite and when his daughter was born she got all the attention UNTIL - his son was born. I remember dad's comment on my bro's Facebook page, "At last, a male in the family" - like WTF? My adolescence was very lonely. I was shy. I had few friends and nobody special in my life back then. If my daughter finds a sweetheart in her life I'll be encouraging. She likes her swimming instructor though he's twice her age. Still, as someone who was never successful at dating I have no intention of discouraging her. Your dad may not be happy for you ever. I'm not the favorite son and I'm now 44. I don't ever expect that to change. Luckily since you're on your own you don't have to tell him. It's just a shame that he's not on your side for encouragement or support.

but here goes...alot of dads even brothers are very protective of their duahgter/sister..

when we think of a daughter/sister having sex..we see it as her"getting fukked..getting banged hard,getting used for the pleasure of some idiot"...we see it as some guy ravaging and violating our sweet daughter/sister..opening her legs and having his way..you egt the point..the guy will do his thing..get his fix..and leave her..jsut another one of his nobs on the bedpost..same thing with a boyfriend imagining his girlfriend havng sex with another man..same feeling..

its not "having sex" or making love..its the "girl getting smashed"...

when guys do it..were in charge...thats why its a double standard..same thing why girls are caled sluts and guys "pimps,studs"...

same reason why a lot of guys f*** ther girlfriend hrad..make tem scream..moan loud..

no matter how old you are your his daughter and he doesn't want to see you get hurt its kind of like tim mcgraws song "my little girl" he says: someday some boy will ask me for your hand but I won't say yes to him unless I know...but between you and me he won't be good enough

I'm assuming it's because he was young once and knows what lengths some guys will go through to get you into bed, and how easily some girls are played. He doesn't want you to get hurt. He probably would be disappointed about you sleeping around to.

I think he'll be happy for you when you are in a happy, long term relationship with a quality guy that will treat you properly.

Because a dad wants his son to be a man and experience sexual things. A dad doesn't want his daughter to be a sex toy for a guy to play with.
