Frustrated. friends think he's ugly and fat but....I actually like him.

He's not tall, not too good looking and kind of on the chubbs side. I actually like him for HIM, there was something about him, his confidence, social skills, friendliness, funny, popular ...and quite charming. We have great chemistry and click.

I told my friends I liked him and he likes me back and they were like 'him? Really? But you're so pretty and he's so ugh, you can do wayy better hun'. I hate that, I wanted support.

My sisters agree with my friends. So am I weird for liking a 'fat ugly guy', just because I'm 'pretty' and 'thinner'? Am I supposed to like athletic handsome tall dudes? I'm so frustrated.

I'm going to be blunt here, as I was in a similar situation as you.

First question to ask yourself is, who is going to date this guy - you or all your friends and family?!

A relationship is about the two of you. A marriage is about two families. So so long as you don't jump to the marriage stage, I would not care about the others for now. I know it's hard to do so, but you like each other. If it is meant to work, it will.

You've described his personality as a good one with good social skills which is almost exactly like the guy I dated and everyone dispoved of. It took a little time for everyone to accept him for who HE was and not what he looked like. They are judging the book by the cover by the sounds of it and all they need to do is get to know him. Of course, if they've met him and chatted and still don't like each other, then that's a different kettle of fish. However, from what you are saying, that is the not case?

Good luck! It is hard, but if you like the guy and he likes you back you will be able to go through this together.

Please don't listen to these girls, you have found a great guy. Hold on to him because lots of girls would kill to find somebody they click with. You sound like you have a good heart, but don't be drawn into the caddyness of only dating because of appearance. Chances are the other girls have somebody they like, but don't want to admit it because of the same thing. Be the one that doesn't care because this guy sounds like a winner and you would set a good example of loving somebody for who they are, not what they look like. You wouldn't want somebody to treat you differently because of your appearance, so don't do that to him. Go for it, don't buy into this bull crap.

I can see why you're frustrated with the lack of support from your friends, and why it's a let down to be told that.

But that is because they don't see the sweet guy that you like, they only see "the fat and ugly" guy, and therefore immediately think that he's out of your league.

Instead of thinking of the looks, to find someone you like, more should do like you, and look at the inside, the chemistry.

Don't let them break you! Don't give up on this guy! He could be the best partner ever, and so much better than an athletic one.

I say that you should follow your instincts, and if your friends and family don't see it, then that's a shame!

no it means that you see deeper than skin and the superficial. I applaud you. You should pursue this if you can and at least see if there is something to it.

It's funny when we are young we are so often wrapped up how a person looks and are they equal or better than me in physical attractiveness. you get older to realize that looks are only a factor in attractiveness and all attractiveness is relative (that's to say it's like art; the Mona Lisa may be masterpiece may look like garbage to some).

I say good for you for being mature enough to see things in a different light. Give the guy a shot if you really like and d*mn what everyone else says, because if it works out they'll only be jealous that you have such a great relationship...also don't forget we can work to alter our physical appearance much easier than we can fix our personality

Society wants you to have mates that are deemed (by society) to be equal to you. If you like him, go for it. You're not likely to come by a guy that you feel the same about for a while.

You like him, he likes you. He sounds like he'd treat you good, and that you'd have a lovely relationship together. Sorry, but it doesn't seem like your friends/sisters are thinking about your happiness. You do what you feel is right, and don't ASK them if it's okay. If you're attracted to him for whatever reason, then go for him. Don't let what other people say bother you. Watch some of them date hot guys and regret it.
