Call me old fashioned - my girlfriend too - but guys should have armpit hair, women should not.
In fact, I find armpit hair on women to be wildly unattractive. Not sure why, but I have a viscerally negative reaction to it. Shave pubes I don't care for but can live with. (Though it makes me feel like a child molester.)
Unshaved armpits on a woman, though, drops my libido to nothing. It is a massive turn-off.
As to guys, neither my girlfriend nor I gets this shaving mania. In fact, thinking it was the fashion, one time, to surprise her, I shaved everything. Pubes, armpits, chest, legs.
She was surprised all right. She hated it. She said it made her feel like she was a child molester. She said she wants a man who looks like a man and not a boy who has yet to experience puberty.
Works for me, too. First, because all that shaving was a lot of work. In fact, I don't get it, beards seem to be "in" right now, presumably because guys can't be bothered to shave. Yet they have the time to shave everything else? Go figure.
That said, I shave my beard in the spring and summer month, but otherwise everything is natural. (I have a beard in the fall and winter only because I loathe cold weather and a beard just makes me feel a bit warmer.)
Besides, evolution gave us body hair for a reason. It is a signal to the female that we are sexually mature and can produce sperm to make babies. Also, it traps pheromones that our bodies produce that make us more sexually attractive. So when you shave your body hair, you are effectively sending your sex appeal into space.
Not gonna do that. Besides, my girlfriend, when she is feeling cutesy, likes to call me "her furry little bear." So - - - "furry little bear" I am, "furry little bear" I intend to remain. The only fur on me to go will be the beard in late March - and by that point the girlfriend and our children are ready to see it go.12 Reply- +1 y

+1 yIt depends on what you mean by "fine with seeing"...
Do I think it should be legal? Yes. Any amount of armpit hair should be legal to both have and display in public.
Would I personally confront someone with "too much" armpit hair in public? No, no matter how much they have.
In my personal opinion, what amount of armpit hair do I find "gross"? Anything more than a close shave.
How much armpit hair would I personally tolerate on a romantic partner? Clean shaven only.04 Reply- +1 y
That is exagetrated. Do you realize people have other priorities in life than shaving? To stay clean shaved you must do it daily. Do you always shave daily?
- +1 y
No you dont. It takes less than a minute to do and lasts for a week. I know, because I've tried it.
- +1 y
@areuok Maybe you and I have different definitions of clean shaven. A week's worth of stubble is barely visible to me. So when I said "clean shaven only", I had in mind anywhere from freshly shaven to a week's worth of stubble.
Plus, I'm blonde, so that also may be part of it. It might just be more visible after week for people with dark hair. I don't know.
I personally like my armpits to be clean-shaven at all times. But that is a personal preference so I don't expect everyone to adhere to that.
In terms of women, I think shaving armpits should be like men's beards - optional, with most probably opting for a clean shave but growing it isn't frowned upon.
In terms of men, I wouldn't want them to shave as I like a hairy man but I don't really care for seeing anyone's armpits regardless. I barely even see my boyfriends.00 Reply
I don’t care. If it’s not me, It’s not my problem. I definitely keep my armpit hair maintained but there are a lot of girls who don’t care. Guys are fine with armpit hair cause it’s “normal” for them to have it. For women/girls though, we have to wax/shave and keep our hair/pubic hair to a minimum, simply because it’s not very “lady” like to have outrageous clumps or patches of hair on our bodies. It’s stupid.

If it was for me (male) or females, not because of beauty standards or whatever but shaving is part of keeping your hygiene good, and to get rid from getting smelly since armpits is the fastest place to develops bacteria (bad smell) on the skin, and hair helps get humidity more by warmth... so less hair means less bacteria thus less smell going for good hygiene!12 Reply- +1 y
At east you dislike it equally on both genders and you aren't so exagerrated to say i should be always smooth. Indeed, Hair absorbs bacteria, but since people didn't have running water and couldn't bathe so often hair absorbing it actually helped to keep some of the bacteria away from the skin. But indeed now we have water available more, so we don't need that hair so much.

00 ReplyMy girlfriend's armpit hair has never been longer than a few mm/not even a quarter inch. I don't mind it that she shaves, but I would like it if she would grow it out. She doesn't have that much anyway, so it probably won't become a huge bush. But if she prefers to shave it's fine for me as well.

Nah, that is just a bit sexist honestly because armpit hair is normal on both genders. And before you say it Is preference I am not into women but i don't see armpit hair differently. If it was facial or chest hair then yeah then I would see it differently but for places where it is normal for both genders i don't see how it would be grosser on one of them.
- +1 y
Again, male armpit hair has a function, while female armpit hair doesn't. It's a bit like why men have nipples, they serve no function but they don't cause any harm either.
People can have whatever preferences they want, but it's wrong to say there's no difference between male and female armpit hair, it simply isn't true. - +1 y
@David_Kek source? I stink more without armpit hair
- +1 y
@David_Kek, that is sexist propaganda. People get armpit and pubic hair to absorb sweat and keep the bacteria away from the skin because people couldn't get showers as much as today... it isn't relevant to gender. It serves a purpose for both genders... stop promoting that bullshit. And men have nipples because at first the fetus is prepared to be both male and female. Men have mamary glands too, they are just not active.

"The best way to avoid BO is to keep the areas of your skin that tend to sweat clean and free of bacteria. You should wash armpits, genitals and feet with soap every day. Clothes should be changed and washed regularly. Antiperspirants reduce the amount of sweat you produce. Deodorants mask the smell of BO. Shaving armpit hair can help reduce BO, as hair can trap sweat and bacteria."
-
In other words, less hair, less surface area for said smelly bacteria to attach itself to.
www.pbs.org/.../l_016_08.html
"In the first "sweaty T-shirt" experiment, a Swiss zoologist, Claus Wedekind, set up a test of women's sensitivity to male odors. He assembled volunteers, 49 women and 44 men selected for their variety of MHC gene types. He gave the men clean T-shirts to wear for two nights and then return to the scientists.
In the laboratory, the researchers put each T-shirt in a box equipped with a smelling hole and invited the women volunteers to come in, one at a time, and sniff the boxes. Their task was to sample the odor of seven boxes and describe each odor as to intensity, pleasantness, and sexiness.
The results were striking. Overall, the women preferred the scents of T-shirts worn by men whose MHC genes were different from their own. " - +1 y
Does not change the fact women have body hair. I men do you cut your nipple off? Why should shave themself?
- +1 y
He doesn't even know what he's talking about. Both genders are subconsciously attracted to the opposite genders scent. And that study only shows women being attracted, it doesn't say men aren't

I don't care what you do, i'm merely stating the fact just because both men and women have something, doesn't mean they both have function.
My personal preference, is i don't like unhygienic or hairy women. That offends you? Then don't try to date me. There's plenty of men out there... there's a few men out there who couldn't care less. You're free to do as you wish, just like i am free to have preferences of my choosing. Deal with it.

"Both genders are subconsciously attracted to the opposite genders scent"
-
Right, but female pheromones aren't really in that great a degree in their sweat, more so in their saliva and vagina secretions. More over men are only attracted to female pheromones once a month, because men aren't biologically looking for indication of genetic compatibility, what they are looking for it is high levels of estrogen which indicates she's about to hit the fertile 5 days of her cycle... that's the point that women's secretions smell the nicest to men.
But no, you keep pretending that men and women are the same a stuff, and let me know how that goes for you in your personal life about 10 years from now.
"I just don't like someone spreading bullshit"
-
Then stop saying "armpit and pubic hair to absorb sweat and keep the bacteria away from the skin because people couldn't get showers as much as today", as if that somehow having increase surface area for BO to stick to somehow reduces the smell.
- +1 y
@David_Kek That is the truth, dumbass, especially for women's genitals. Without hair, if they wouldn't wash regularly the risk of infections would rise. Hair absorbs fluids, so bacteria will stick to the hair, not the skin or inside of the vagina. yes, you have some sexist propaganda there.
- +1 y
It is even more sexist that you state hair is only unhygenic for women. Shave your whole body then, every cm of it, because you are unhygenic.
- +1 y
emmily2396 I'm sorry, that is not how it works; having hair doesn't stop it sticking to the skin, it just gives it more things to stick onto. And thanks for the mental imagine of your hairy vagina that supposedly doesn't need washing all that hair will protect it... i didn't really need that.
I never said it's unhygienic for women, i just said armpit hair has no function for women as opposed to men. I just have a personal preference of less body hair on a woman, finding that more feminine and hence more attractive.
And yes, i am a sexist, i confess. Men and different. What else you got?
- +1 y
@David_Kek Dumbass, I told you the purpose of body hair, I didn't describe you how I look. In the past people didn't have available running water 100% of the time, so their hair stayed there to reduce the risk of infections. And it is hypocritical to expect a woman to be smooth when you aren't. Body hair serves a purpose on both genders, otherwise it wouldn't be there. Grab an anatomy book instead of looking for studies that only prove what you want (which don't even contradict other things). A true gentleman isn't sexist or makes assumptions or finds studies to support his sexist beliefs.

"their hair stayed there to reduce the risk of infections"
-
I'm sorry, but that is not how it works; the evidence does not support your case.
"body hair serves a purpose on both genders, otherwise it wouldn't be there"

Women have underarm hair, because it wasn't a negative, but for men it was a positive, and evolutionarily it's easier to give both sexes something than only one of them. We kept our pubic hair not only to hold onto said smells, but more importantly to protect our genitals somewhat from UV rays. And we kept the hair on your head as nothing more that for mate selection (longer hair/proper beard indicates you hormone levels and genetics health). With everything else, other than maybe to slightly reduce the friction between our ass crack, our fur serves us no other purpose other than interfering with our new hunting methods to bring down animals before we suffer heat exhaustion, which is why we slowly lost it.
We didn't loss all of our fur, because we didn't need to, we lost enough of it to sweat properly when chasing down animals to exhaustion. It doesn't mean it serves a function, it's just a vestigial left over in our evolution, not unlike our two nails.
And if it does have any functional at all, it's sexual just like our head hair; more body hair = higher levels of testosterone, low body hair equals lower levels of testosterone. Do the math with said double standard you care so much about.
- +1 y
"it is hypocritical to expect a woman to be smooth when you aren't."
-
Not really, it's actually called having a double standard, which i have a tendency of doing when applies standards to different things.
"A true gentleman isn't sexist or makes assumptions or finds studies to support his sexist beliefs."
-
That's funny, because in nearly every proper relationship I've been, said women have loved the socks off me and told me how i'm one of the sweetest more caring men they've ever known. Maybe if you get rid of your hair vag, start acting like a real woman and dropping all the feminist bullshit, and maybe throwing in a few back rubs and blowjobs in for good measure, then maybe i'll start being a little nicer to you.
Until then, i don't care what you think about me.
- +1 y
I think y'all misunderstood me, let me clear things up. First off, I am not into girls. I just feel like men look fine with bushy armpit hair when women don't in my eyes. This is only because I personally view hairy body parts as more masculine. I'm not forcing all women to always shave their hairy armpits, it's their body and I'll respect their decision. I DEFINITELY understand it's natural for women to have hairy armpits, and it's OUR CHOICE on whether we decide to shave or not. I don't judge woman that don't want to shave. It's not a crime to not have the same preference.
- +1 y
And can we not be more calm and civil when commenting under somebody else's opinion. This was a simple question and I just gave my opinion on it. So what if people have different views from you? I would think most of us are mature enough to respect each other's different views on minuscule matters like this. Especially seeing that I wasn't shoving my opinion down anyone else's throat.

There is some brainwashing here going on. As I said I don't like long armpit hair, but I despie it equally on both genders and I am not so ridiculous to expect someone to be perfectly smooth all the time. Plus some of the guys who voted A probably don't fall into that category themselves.

I don't think so many women want makeup, some feel pressured to wear it.
- +1 y
I think women should be smooth, just not all the time. @emmily2396 don't you want a man to shower before you get physically intimate? How is this act of preparation any different? I know I would want to be as close to what the other person wanted as I could be. I shave my face every-other day but I would gladly make it a twice daily thing if a woman so requested.

@hi_it_is_me123 Probably not unless it was winter and nobody else would see it. Actually, no if you count my head. If a woman wanted it and I cared about her I would do most things, but I wouldn't look good with a shaved head.

Showering is different from shaving. And saying just women need to shave a body part where is normal. for both genders to have hair is sexist. Then all guys should exervise and cut off their nipples because nipples are useless for guys. Sounds better now?
