My crush said I love you to me in a text today. Should I take him seriously?

I love my guy friend and I think he's crushing on me but we're too chicken to have the dtr talk. We take a lang class together and he used to say I love you in another lang to me, but I told him to stop, unless he meant it, because he was using the romantic way and said he didn't love me romantically. I told him how to say I love you as friends but he just stopped saying it, except in English, like "love you", not I'm IN love with you.

Today he texts me about another class and closes with (romantic) I love you in that language, his nickname for me and ciao.

He's really shy and insecure and had told me he feels unworthy of love. He remembers everything I've ever said to him and quotes me on it a lot, so I don't think he forgot how I told him to not say that unless he meant it. Should I take him at his word, because that would be a huge step, since we haven't even kissed.

I am in love with him and I think he might be with me. We've been having really long silent stares every day and we touch a lot in little ways. He gives me the head tilt dopey smile stare a lot, like he's wasted or something.

Should I ask him if he meant it? I texted back I love you too, romantically, but he didn't answer and I won't see him until tomorrow. Should I just act normal and forget it?

Getting a boyfriend is not the same as getting a husband. Waiting for a romantic "I love you" declaration is like waiting for the President to call and invite you to work at McDonald's before you accept the job. He loves you, that's awesome. He wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. Show him some affection in public, the kind you'd show a brother or your best friend (hook the hand in the elbow, sit super close for no reason, touch his arm just because you're talking, etc). If he doesn't pull away or tell you to stop then he likes it and he likes you. Chances are you'll make him feel confident enough to reciprocate. Playfully tell him that it seems like he's sweet on you and that he needs to admit it.

Or skip all that and in private ask, "So why haven't you asked me on a date yet?" after he tells you he loves you. Or, with the "I love you" text on your phone.

First off calm down it's just a guy. Love is a huge word but people use it very loosely now. Especially in highschool. Texts really mean nothing honestly. You need to confront him and talk to him in person to find out his true feelings.
