Once upon a time I had a guy approach me and ask me "how you doin?". I told him Joey was hotter and did it better. He didn't let up for like two months with the pick up lines and asking me out. He finally wore me down and we were together off and on for six years. I still cringe when I think of how it all started.
They work. Especially if you mess it up and it’s funny 😄
I think it's pretty funny to go along with it. I find it interesting to watch how they react and what their next reply will be..

"Did you fall from heaven?"
"No I scraped my knees crawling out of hell"
If an average looking guy who I wouldn't be interested in came up to me and started saying a bunch of funny and cringy pick up lines I'd definitely find him more attractive than he really is, if you can make a girl laugh she become more attracted
I’m cheap tbh it’d probably work on me if it’s funny and the guy looked somewhat good. But more important is what comes after the pick up line. 🤷🏼♀️

I find them obnoxiously cheesy. Just talk to me like a normal, adult human being.

I say yes they do work for me. As long as they show that the guy has a sense of humor and is interesting. If it is too sexual or cringey its a no from me.
If the pick up line isn't rude then it will work if I find him attractive.
