I personally am indirect unless I'm getting some clear signs from the other person that they are interested but even then I still beat around the bush...

Depends.. I am not direct with men I meet in my everyday life, then I rather want things to evolve slowly, be subtle and let it build up naturally. But I also do online dating and there I find it easier to just go for it and move on if they are not interested.
