Have you ever invited someone, and they brought a third wheel?

Recently I have been host to a friend, and his sister. Amazing dinner, excellent company, but I found myself not much at ease with his sister.
Today I invited him out for a private dinner for tomorrow night, and he asked if his sister was invited too - I said yes out of courtesy, but cringed at the idea - she just doesn't fit into our conversations and although I hate to say it, when she's not cringey she's plain boring.
Whatever, I put myself into this mess by not knowing to say no :).

Definitely been there. I invited a girl to go on a trip and she asked at last minute of she tagged along a friend. I said yes out of courtesy but I hated the idea and she only talked with her the whole journey. I get why she did that though. She did that to be avoided from getting asked out. But it was a cheap move.

That was impolite of him to ask you. Yes, I've had friends bring unexpected guests and I have even seen some parents bring extra kids to birthday parties.

I guess it was my fault for telling him I wanted to pay back the invitation and he assumed it was aimed at his sister as well.
