What does it mean if a guy puts his hand around a girl's waist?

Guys I need some help! I'm in college and I was in lab with my partners and we had a question for the lab instructor,who’s another student who's a chem major. The question he asked made us laugh so we started joking about it. He heard what I said(he was next to me helping my other partner)so he laughed and placed his hand on my waist and ran it over my waist, it was very quick that I doubt anyone but me noticed. My question is what does that mean, and does he like me or am I reading into it to much? There was also another time when I had on my goggles and he told me they weren’t neat,and he came over and fixed them and my glasses for me.

If someone goes out of his/her way to make physical contact with you there are sending a strong signal that they find you attractive. If he had put his hand on your shoulder I might have doubts, but your waist? Dude is into you.

If it only happened once and things cooled off immediately afterward, then it was a random gesture. If it's not an isolated incident, he's trying to make physical contact with you till you catch on that he likes you.
