If a guy is a smart-ass and playfully teases women, is that taken as flirting?

When he teases, and it's playful and the girl doesn't get defensive but laughs and smiles...is that taken as him flirting? Because that's what I do, and if it's too subtle they won't realize it's flirting. So am I doing it right?

That is one way to flirt, yeah. It sounds like you're doing fine. What you should do next is build on that. Use more risque humour. Sexual innuendo and so forth. You want to make her laugh, and shock her a little too. Also, by falling into the stereotype of a typical horny guy, you give her access to hundreds of well known teases about how boys are nothing but horn dogs... it gives her easy ammunition to continue the back and forth between you.

I think girls with self-esteem issues might like being teased like that but most normal girls will not like this kind of treatment.

I'm never rude or derogatory. Teasing is being silly and playful, but making fun of someone is picking at their faults. I don't make fun of women or give them emotional rough treatment.

And women have called me jerk and a-hole before, but it's always with a smile on their face and it's normally followed by a hug. They're not emotionally damaged nobodies either, but confident, successful and educated women.

And believe it or not, a little playful teasing weeds out the ones with the self-esteem issues. If a girl trips and I smile and say "you're so graceful", and she takes that as a sleight to her ego and a personal attack...it tells me they're a reactor and someone I want to avoid.
