Girls, Is a gift of pepper spray a good gift to give a female freind for her birthday?

She has no training, no knowledge, and has no idea how to defend herself. Even worse she is oblivious to the dangers of going out at night. True she does not regularly do it and she is usually with a small group of women or me. However I'm still worried about her, and the girls. While we were out at the local mall we were followed by some rough looking dudes so I shoved the girls into a dinner till they passed. The girls just teased that they would use me, shove me at the guy and I would fight him while they ran screaming. I know they were joking but it still worried me. So I half jokingly said that I would get them something to defend themselves with for their birthdays.
Girls what would you think if your guy freind gave you a gift like that and a card?

If it was for me I would appreciate that you look out for me and want me to be safe. It's true some would find it insulting, as if you told them that they are weak and can't take care of themselves, but I think if you emphasize the point that all you want is for her not to get hurt then I guess it could work. Writing something nice in the card might be a good idea as well. Also, make sure the spray bottle is not too big or bulky, so she can easily carry it with her. (Bonus points if it looks cute too!).

Well she actually said that she would be useless and would have to just run away if something bad happened. The sad part was the other girls with us agree that they were also useless. Except on who had a small cute pink bottle of pepper spray. Sadly she moved away soon after.

Really wow. I'm not to good at making stuff for people. I never think that it is good enough. Besides she has her regular necklace ratings and other stuff she wears. She might wear what I made or got her once and then never wear it again. She is just my friend I'll probably give her a gift card.

What ever I want I just get a necklace chains from the store and either get beads charm's or find a shiny Rock like courts or Crystal and rap wire around it and glue part of the wire to the stone just to make sure it doesn't go anywhere pretty easy really

I wouldn't have an issue with it as long as it's okay to carry by law. In some states it's illegal to carry. Your intentions are good, but make sure that she wouldn't be offended by this or something like that. Some may take it as disrespect if they don't know why you got them that. So make your intentions clear if you do get her one.

Well, I wouldn't imply that its a joke. You should only get somebody something like that when safety is a concern. Anybody would take it as a disrespect while joking. So unless she is not the serious type, she may find this offensive. Again, only give it to her out of sincere concerns.

Personally I think it's sweet that you are concerned about their safety, but pepper spray just isn't really gift material. I see it more as something they should do for themselves. That said, they do sound oblivious, so maybe it would be smart of you to take it into your own hands. Do what you feel comfortable with!

I might just get her a gift card for her to open. I'll also get her the spray but I'll just clip it onto her purse when she leaves it around and put a bow on it.

If she knew of any way to defend herself then that might be insulting in the way that your talking. However I would rather baby her and give her something that might save her life or stop her from getting raped then worry about her maybe being insulted.
I'd give her self defense lessons but she won't take them. She might do one and quite at most.
