Why do women wear bras? Is it just for appearance, social expectations, or do they actually provide support?

It depends on the woman and the size and shape of their breasts. Some might just wear it because of social expectations, some might wear them to make their nipples less visible. Especially if they have larger breasts they probably need the support. If I had smaller breasts that didn't need the support I'd not wear a bra

It actually supports our chests a lot. Without it they move around way too much for comfort and the nipples are to visible.

Some ladies prefer no bra since it can be uncomfortable but society usually doesn't find it acceptable to go braless.

It does help to have them secured when at work or moving around a lot.

It depends a lot on how big your boobs are for bigger ones support is crucial for smaller ones its often more looks and expectations
