Do men objectify women or do women "objectify themselves"?

I would say it's definitely men doing it here's why. The argument goes that women "objectify themselves by wearing revealing clothes. I mean what did they expect men to do". Well women wear revealing clothes because it's hot and/or they're proud of their bodies.

But here's what a lot of people tend to forget: just because you're proud of something about yourself doesn't mean that's all there is to you. Objectifying women isn't about admiring, embracing or celebrating the beauty of the female body. It's a myopic attitude where women are reduced to nothing more than something to look at (i. e. the root of the word objectifying; and object versus a being).

Both men and women objectify women, they both objectify men as well.

Lord knows how many times for example I seen both genders try and dismiss a woman for example just cause she has big boobs. Like somehow, if you have big boobs, it means you don't have anything important to say or like you have nothing of value to say. Which is just dumb naturally.

Another example, that scam Feminist for example, Anita sarkesian or something? I always found her narratives so damn ironic and hypocritical. She would basically hate on all these female characters in games, characters that I liked cause of their personality, but what did she see?, only a body. That was all she cared about, she couldn't give a crap about their personality, she reduced them all to objects that was there for the "male gaze" or whatever.

Anyway, people in general need to obsess less about how people look. Doesn't really define anyone as a person.

I think it´s a mix of both she might not objectify herself but she might do it in some way to other women. One could even argue that all those questions about small dicks/breasts is a form of self objectification since they reduce a person to a part of their body that is just a small part of them.
Sure we guys give you women the feeling that we objectify you but what´s the solution? We live in a day and age where porn seems everywhere full of bikini ads, women wearing revealing or provocative outfits. Like you sure you wanna be proud of your body but that always and probably always will attracts males, it´s part of human nature.

And why I say this for is that if you have a body worth showing off & you have confidence, I say show it off, no body shaming at all, if you like what you have, flaunt it, and if the guys enjoy looking at your body then you should feel flattered for the attention shown.

I think it can be both. For example I could objectify myself if I wear revealing clothes because I truly believe all I have to offer is my sexuality. I guess it’s about the intent on why we do things.

The one thing women hate more than being objectified by men is not being objectified by men, even the most militantfeminist or lesbian. There's no such thing as "objectification." That's just called lust and no one is obligated to marry you first before they get an erection looking at your body. It'd only be "objectification" if you reduced a person down to an actual object or sex machine... Which is what women LITERALLY do with sex toys and phallic-shaped pleasure devices. If you want to get that pedantic, then that is objectification; implying men can be replaced by dildos and vibrators. Otherwise, the idiotic concept of "it being bad or wrong to sexually lust after someone" is stupid and I don't take stupid ideas or beliefs seriously.

Generally, neither. As you yourself say, admiring the way someone looks is not treating them as an object. Neither is not treating someone in the way they think they deserve. Women quite often get seen primarily for their sexual attributes; very rarely EXCLUSIVELY for them.

You never see men complain about being "objectified" despite women doing so to us.

We seeing objective thinking as a positive, and we understand that living objects are still objects, and that it's not a negative thing and applying a negative cannotation to it is just silly.

Instead of trying to stigmatize objectification, I vote we normalize it.

Ok well the thing is, it is a little vague for us men what constitutes merely admiring the female body and what constitutes objectification. If a guy writes a poem describing a woman as being intelligent, but also having marvelous breasts is that objectification since he isn't just focusing on her body?

I'd say it's both a little bit. I have no problem with objectifying or wanting to be objectified, I just dislike that some women will complain or be upset about others objectifying them but still act and dress like an "object" themselves. "Objectification" is a little overblown sometimes, just because one simply states desire for a sexy or attractive person (or a person with a large status and wallet) doesn't necessarily mean objectification.

Most men weren't objectify women though, and there's a few women who still dress modestly
