If a SHY guy likes you, would he necessarily hug you back?

We're pretty close, and have known each other for about two years.

I'm usually around him with one of my friends, and she has commented on how much he stares at me, although whenever I hug him goodbye he just stands there.. Although he waits for it (if you get what I mean)

But when I'm alone with him and I hug him he either pats me on the back or says "thank you"

Its so confusing.. Please help?!

Well I guess you could say, I'm kinda of a shy guy too haha. But for me, it usuallly takes for me to know her a little better. Then I'd hug back, and even approach with a hug...Its no big deal, he'll get the confidence.

It sounds like he's very awkward at physically communicating his feelings, hopefully if he likes you he'll get the courage to tell you.

It seems that he enjoys hugging you, and probably likes you, but is shy and unsure of how to react.
