Do girls dig guys who like poetry/reading a lot?

In my life, I have not encountered more than a handful of girls who liked to read a lot, especially poetry or more romantic/expressive forms of writing.

Do girls like poetry? I realize that it's not a subject studied very extensively in school and that most people don't take it upon themselves to look at it, but I freakin' love it. I also realize that there's a stigma against guys who like such things, including implied homosexuality/sensitive loser kind of guy.

I just love writing/reading in general, and it's so fun to be able to discuss stories/ideas with a female soul to gain that other perspective. I'm continually fascinated by the things girls find interesting vs. guys, especially in literature.

Where have you been all my life? Yes, that's one of most attractive things to me, although I have not ever met a guy who has the slightest interest in poetry. The romantic forms of writing are my favourite, and I make a point to write everyday and read, obviously. I love literature and I collect my favourite pieces in a diary. My dream is to marry a guy who shares this interest with me and is willing to talk about poetry and stories for hours on end. So to answer your question, yes. Yes times a million.

oooh it's very attractive! i just started loving reading books! i finished the hunger games two books in one week and i even find that it took me a long time to finish it and if i had no homework or school i would finish them both in four days. so it would be really nice to have a guy who reads so we can talk about literature. i also write poems and stories so it would be also nice to have my writings reviewed by a guy who writes as well and we can write our own poem

"Might think he's gay/weird". what? all the greatest minds and poets were amongst men and they were always the most intelligent. all philosophers mostly had some poetry, even scientists. ever heard of Omar Khayyám? he was a Mathematician, but also a great poet. was Schiller gay? Nietzsche was also a poet.

writing good poetry is a sign of a highly intelligent mind.

All great advice and great writers to bring up. Throughout history a lot of men indulged in creative arts were segregated to bohemian circles (which tolerated homosexuality when the rest of society outright banned it), so I think that's where I got that stigma from. Obviously that is less and less the case as the days go on, but it still pervades in places. Thanks for the response.

Regardless of what any woman tells you here, in my experience, every time I've ever done something like this it was a sure fire way to get thrown straight into the friend zone. Yeah they might throw you a bone here and there but that's about it. Maybe I just suck at poetry. Either way, it hasn't brought me much success despite what the female population tends to say.

I feel you, hence why I'm asking. Met a lot of girls who claim to like this/"can't date a guy who doesn't read" and seem to end up with dudes who do neither and therefore go back on their original statements. Can't figure out if it's just people being people or society forcing people to go against their values for comfort. Springs forth a lot of poems in itself. Thanks for the response.

No problem man. On a side note I don't think it's society necessarily. I think it takes a long time for women (and men as well) to actually realize what they want AND need. Until they've had enough experience behind them, most women are typically just going to go for that mega alpha male personality. It's nature. Some never learn but most of them do after a while. Either way, none of what you are doing is bad in a female's eyes, but maintain a good balance. For every poem you write for a girl make sure you also punt a cute baby right in front of her :P Just a joke but hopefully you catch my drift ;)

I understand what you're saying completely. Solid advice. Your age range (assuming you didn't lie when you signed up for your profile) brings you closer to wisdom than myself. I guess it's just funny to watch biology play itself out when people don't even realize it. Every time I write a poem, I'm also going to distill gallon-jugs of bourbon whiskey and light fires with it, bringing down the bar tab with my BYOB mentality and upping my "cool" by at least 40 points. This is definitely true.

I don't fault people for going for what they want biologically. It's nature and you can't fight against it or your baser desires. Everytime you do, you end up unsatisfied. The best one can do is work in with nature, or go your own way.

The only time poetry ever worked for me was when I was on the rebound. Poetry seldom ever works to actually attract someone to you. Trust me. And if you actually do get a woman legit off writing, she'll be bored when she realizes that's your greatest (and only) strength.

I think if a guy write you a cute poem then it's okay. That's adorable. But other than that it's not like gunna make u more attractive. Either they won't care or it will make them less interested. There are those certain girls who do love literature and would love that but that's not everyone

Yeah, definitely... but honestly haven't met many guys like that. They're usually into sports, fitness, video games, cars, the outdoors, but reading and poetry? Maybe some here and there, but haven't met a guy seriously into it. That's great that you are. :)

I love reading poetry, but enjoy it more if a guy writes me a meaningful poem, keep on writing i think if you are able to write good poetry, you have a gift, coz its not easy to write, good luck with it, you can write ma a poem if you have time

Exactly! Lyrics of songs are so amazing you can really connect to them and I'm also open to all kinds of music. The lyrics to songs are just so passion ant and the rhythm/beat of it only makes it that much better.

well i am quite sure of the fact even though if any particular woman is not much into reading romantic novels (though most of them are), they love it when a guy writes some sweet poetries for them! that makes them feel special and feel more'in love'!

I read and write daily but when it comes to romance I prefer it to have elements of mystery or crime. It's just a preference I don't know many guys who enjoy to read or write so I'm glad you asked thank you.

I love it when a guy is a good writer especially. When they write really well it's a huge turn on, mainly because I read and write myself. And we have something in common, immediately it tells me that this guy is a lot like me.

I do, for sure. I love reading. I mostly read novels - I haven't read much poetry since high school. A guy who likes to read is the kind of guy I'm attracted to.

From a female standpoint, for me, I wouldn't mind a guy who was a poet. Girls LOVE to be flattered, so romantic poetry (not sexy, but sweet, romantic and classy) is definitely a plus.
