Why are short guys cocky?

Question

You know those short guys who are usually below 5'6'' or 5'7''. I've met so many cocky short guys, one example is this guy who is 5'3'' short and he was telling a story to a group of people that I know that it isn't true. He's also cocky in general. There are so cocky for some reason, could it be because of a compensation for lacking height? You know like the 'Napoleon complex'.

I know what you mean. I was at a basketball game one time, and I was sitting on the side that lost the game. Some short dude who was I guess a fan of the team who lost was outside the place running his mouth. I'm paraphrasing, but he was like "This (insert place the team who lost is from). "This is (insert place the team who lost is from." Because we were in the same city the team who lost if from. One of my friends was like "man I'd slide that dude and have him laying in the bushes over there." I died laughing.

I do think some short guys are insecure with their height and "make up for it" with arrogance. Not all are like that, though, I know plenty of short guys who are secure with themselves and even crack lighthearted jokes about their height every once in a while. It just depends on how confident you are as a person.

It's little man syndrome. My ex's cousin is only 5'5 and he's a cocky little shit. He's always trying to fight when he's drunk and he's got this I'm hot as shit attitude. It's cause he knows he's short so he thinks he has to make up for it in some way

I've never really noticed that. Eh, you need to stop stereotyping. I kind of despise generalizations. Cockiness has nothing to do with height. I've ever seen arrogant tall men plenty of times. They think they are hot shit only because of their height.

For the same reason fat girls need to put out: if they don't act like that, people will never take them seriously or will get the wrong impression of them.

Btw, just a quick fact since you reminded of about the "Napoleon Complex" bit. Napoleon was once believed to have only been 5'2" tall, It was later discovered that he was probably 5'6" tall, which was a perfectly reasonable and average height for that time. There were pictures of him next to his Imperial Guards, with them being obviously taller than him. This isn't because Napoleon was short, but because the Imperial Guards were purposefully taller men- they were recruited BECAUSE they were bigger men. Just the same as Grenadiers of the time, it was the bigger men that could handle large equipment/weapons or toss heavy grenades easier than an average height man of the line.

We'll since they lack in height they need to make up for it, so being cocky might help with getting that balance back. And the reason why is probably they don't want people to belittle them.. (Pun intended)

I think a good analogy here is to look at dogs. The big dogs, like Rottweilers, Dobermans, etc. don't have to cause a fuss, they know they can kick butt. On the other end of the spectrum you have the little guys, like chihuahuas and weiner dogs. They have to do something to make up for their size so they have to be loud and 'act big'. :-D Although to be fair, I've met plenty of cocky big dudes and laid back short ones

I think its cause they are shorter than their friends they try to act bigger than what they really are, and also try to act hard and string to compete with others

Exactly as most people have said, to 'compensate' for their vertical challenges. They have to make up some how in their eyes and they fall into that trap
