Blushing from embarrassment or attraction?

The guy I like who works at my local supermarket got a haircut a couple of weeks ago and I complimented him on it tonight just before I walked away from the register and his whole face flushed red and he smiled/looked down, but he seemed caught off guard and like he didn't know what to say, so he quickly told me, "Thank you, that's always very much appreciated." I also bought tulips (they're my favorite flowers so I usually always get them) and just before I complimented him he was struggling trying to hand them to me and he suddenly appeared nervous. He seems to be very extroverted and he doesn't give the impression of being an easy blusher, but I couldn't tell if he was necessarily blushing because, like most people, receiving a compliment does catch you off guard and while nice it is embarrassing, or if his face flushed red because he reciprocates the attraction. I know people all blush for various reasons, which is what makes it hard for me to figure out exactly why he blushed after I complimented him. Do you blush when anyone compliments you or does it depend on whether or not you like the person/think they're attractive?

From personal experience I've found that I'm more likely to blush when I'm complimented by someone I admire/like or if the compliment seems sincere, but generally I don't blush very easily and I'm more likely to become sheepish.
