I have known 2 types of girls who were into things like comics, or video games, or table top games like DnD, etc.
Type one is the girl who honestly likes that stuff, just as much as any guy who does.
Girls like that (and, judging by your statement, include you) do exist.
But the thing is, they are rare.
Most girls tend to fall into type two: fakers.
Maybe they fake it because it is cool right now. Maybe they fake it because they have a friend who is into it and they want to find a way to spend more time with that friend. Maybe they fake it because, even though they could not care less about characters, plots, or stories (comics and video games), they love aspects of the aesthetic.
Some want to associate with it simply because it is seen as "counter culture" and it makes them feel unique.
The problem is, for every one girl who honestly enjoys it, it seems there are 3 who cling to it like a leech, for whatever reason. And because it is a genre marketed to males, and because many women "into it" are type 2, guys who are into those things tend to view women who claim to be into those things with suspicion.
I'n not saying how they react is justified. Some treatment aimed at women who like these things by these guys is abhorrent. My point is simply that there are enough girls who fake being into it, or are into it, but on a very shallow level, that guys can understandably react with a little suspicion when a girl says she likes that stuff, and some honest surprise when he realizes she isn't bullshitting him.

It cab be kinda surprising to some, comics aren't really considered as much of a "girl" thing since people forgot about the time when just about everyone read comics and there were even romance titles. As a guy who views gender a bit more traditionally than most, I kinda go, "oh hey, a girl reading comics, that's different", then as a geek, I say "hey, wonder who her favorite writer is? Let's find out". Get some eyebrows myself as a u30 guy reading non-manga, though. When it comes down to it, we're a secondary demographic for most Western (DC/Marvel type) comics.
And unfortunately, when comics are associated with girls, they're usually thought of as antisocial types who don't take care of themselves physically or get out at all, and you're really quite pretty and composed, based on your profile pic you look like the type who carries herself with confidence.
I for one, think it's really cool that you're a comics reader. They're great entertainment, so it's always nice to run into someone else around your age who's "in the know" about the industry. What are some of your favorite titles, out of curiosity? I'd have to say a few of mine are would include the Manapul-Bucellatto Flash, Snyder's Batman, Northlanders, and just about anything Silver Age Marvel.
Hopefully you never have any run-ins with the fake geek girl inquisition, because Heaven forbid you read Justice League without realizing there was a Green Lantern before Hal Jordan who didn't work with the Guardians. Best of reading to you.
I think girls that do things that seem more male and unusual for girls makes them even more interesting to guys, from personal experience. I mean, girls are supposed to love chick flicks, make up, and DIYs -- but a girl who loves comics? Now that's interesting and uncommon - worth looking into, and that girl is worth having a conversation with. Be proud of yourself, rare one.
I have a feeling youg you're getting into it justto seem ifferent and or attractive to guys. Girl, stop. I see right past you
I'm one of them and agree with you. People are usually surprised when I tell them

Because you don't look nerdy but you do enjoy something people associate with "nerdiness"
It's fine, be interested in what you enjoy.Im indifferent, i used to like them as a kid, in my teens, i liked manga and anime now only once in a while, but if she likes it thats cool if she doesn't thats cool too, i think most guys are surprised when a girl likes comics and anime and video games because for the longest time its always been associated with nerds, now a variety of people like it, plus most girls dont admit they like those things because it makes them feel like a geek when it shouldn't, so a guy is shocked when he hears them admit it lol.
because guys are the ones expected to be the nerd for comics like the 1963 comic book that had super man and atomic man fighting and the foot on super mans left foot was drawn wrong. on page 25. making the comic book worth millions!
but yeah you get my meaning guys just tend to be more into nerd stuff i think unless women are just finding it more difficult to say anything after teasing so many guy friends about it.Unless she's one of those fake 'geek girls' or 'gamer girls' where they take pics of themselves basically licking an xbox controller, then I'm all for it. In fact, that's probably the type of girl I'd wanna spend the rest of my life with.
By the way, Marvel>>>DC and don't even try and argue :PI don't actually like comics, but I would for some reason like the fact that a girl likes comics. But, I think this is mostly because I think if she likes comics she must be a female superhero, like catwoman or wonderwoman, or catwoman (I think those are the only female superheroes.)
No honestly, just a turn on, when a girl is into something other than how many angles she can take selfies of her butt cheeks.Because its not common. Would you be taken aback if a guy talked about how he read romance novels? Probably. Its not the norm doesn't mean its bad (or good) its just different and unexpected.
It worries me that women might ruin a genre that was originally for men. Supergirl, Shehulk and other forced female comic book heros are good examples of how women can ruin the comic book genre.
because we don't expect girls to be geeky... society expects girls to be girly , like barbie, listen to beyoncé and be feminine... so we are suprised and somewhere it is normal... Nowadays people are opening up so it is getting better...
I love it. i think people make a big deal out of it because statisticly speaking it isn't likely that a girl as attractive as you would be interested in comics. It's also the fact that they are excited that a hot girl has a similar intrest in something they're interested in
In the past, it was a real guys/nerd thing, they just don't expect it that much on a girl yet. +1 from me that you are into comics though :D
To tell you the truth I am confused as to why anyone reads comics anymore. If you want easy entertainment why not watch TV or Netflix? If you want to read why not read an actual book?
I mean, girls are nerds and geeks too and can be into comics. It's pretty normal.
I don't know, I see a lot of girls in comic book stores. Never really thought of it tbh.wow never expected a girl like you were into comics
Hahaha jk :p
I grew up on marvel comics. Marvel fan 4 life✌They're great, I think many guys like fan girls. :)
There aren't that many girls out there who like comics so whenever I see one I find it oddly cute.
Its rare to find girls into stuff that mostly guys are into... so its pretty good when we find girls like you.
Love it! What is your favourite comic and/or character?
Because most girls that like comics are less than attractive or nerds. I've never met an attractive girl that likes comics in real life lol
I like cartoon art as well, so I'd just be like cool. :)
