What does it mean when a guy unfollows you on Instagram?

Well, It's not really my case but my friends in fact.
I followed her crush about 2 months ago because she wanted to see pictures on his Instagram.
He accepted and followed me back as well and haven't unfollowed me yet. I only see him in the hallways but never talked to him before. My friend talked to him once or twice maybe and she is in 2 of his classes.

So about a week ago she finally had guts to follow him and first he followed her back but unfollowed her 2 days after. She started to cry, got emotional, and asked me why he would follow me but not her.
I told her it probably was just an accident and she told me that he follows about 500 people and has 300 followers which show that he's not the really the kind of balancing followers and following ratio.

What could be the possible reason for him to do that?:/

There is literally no actual reason for that it’ll be an official solution if the answer is coming from him. Remember it’s a crush so it’s hard to go off his actions just from social media. I experienced that myself and over time I forgot about him and moved onto someone else. Don’t waste time sobbing over a guy who is probably spending his time stressing over another girl. Take it easy and don’t come off too strong nor aggressive or you’ll push him away.
