Why does he act cocky when I show interest?

When I first seen him, he was shy and insecure. He couldn't make eye contact or talk to me unless a friend was with him.
The minute I show signs of interest,
he's confident, he makes me laugh, he can be himself BUT...
he starts to be really bitchy.
he acts cocky, and
plays hard to get with me.

When I act like im not into him,
he's all shy and insecure again.
He walks past me with his head down.
He can't make eye contact.
He's too scared to talk to me unless he's with a friend (again).
Its on and off.

Attention is a drug. Especially when you live your life thinking nobody wants to be near you. Treat it like one. Give him what he needs, love, support, a true friend, and give him more only if he has a positive reaction. When he starts to get bad, walk it back. Trust me. I've been in his boat before.

Just compensating probably. When he's shy probably thinking about what he's going to say and trying to not mess it up. Then when you show interest he trys to run with it and be on an equal level with you and it can come off as cocky. Like if he's too nice he'll end up in the friend zone kinda.

Sounds like he doesn't have much experience with women. Like he's watching your reaction and playing it by ear. He's overthinking and doesn't know what to do when he sees negative feedback from you
