What are reasons for a guy to never ever text first?

He replies to the texts in the same day. and talks/initiates just fine in person. but why would a guy not initiate a text? especially after you've initiated texts with him over the course of a couple of months, that now, he should be comfortable to initiate if he was being shy before? It would be nice for him to wake up one day and be like, oh let me text her about the weather! Could y'all list why guys would do that?

oh and he's def a texter because I know he texts people and he's constantly on his phone

Because guys don't give a shit about texting, whereas consider it a barometer of the overall health of a relationship (which is crazy)
Guys will NEVER value texting as much as girls, it just ain't happenin. Instead of understanding this, or opening up a dialog towards compromise, girls instead try to bend us to their will... you know how well that works, right?😂😂
Just because he's on his phone all the time does not mean he's texting and how do you know that he's texting other each other people?

he is texting bc my friend told me she gets texts from him. plus I've literally seen him on his phone texting others (with my own 2 eyes)

he's not actually that type. he's very awkward with girls and he's never had a girlfriend. He's really good friends with this one girl (who is also my friend) and they been friends for a long time, and he usually will text her first.

He's not interested in you romantically. If he was, he'd be thinking about you, make you a priority, and text first. This justIjust showshshows he's not thinking of you. When he's texting back, he's being polite.

the thing is, he's different in person. he always approaches me, starts convos, is around me, does the whole shy guy thing (staring, looking away when I look at him, voice gets soft), has done favors for me, helps me, etc.
