Do you think I should send my ex coworker a message on Instagram even though he hasn’t accepted or declined my follow request?

it’s been about 3 days now since I sent a request to my ex coworker on insta and i really don’t see him responding to it any time soon.. which kind of annoys me because he’s only got 1 post and I’m sure it’s his new car, and he’s barely following anyone or has any followers so I’m so confused why he can’t just accept it. like it’s not a big deal, kind of lame to set your profile private when you only have 1 post and don’t follow many or have many followers. Anyway, I’m tempted to just kind of message him like, hey here’s my number call or text whenever you want to hangout or just talk in general. But if he’s seen my request and I send him a message then I look needy and weird I don't know. Should I send him that message
