Why do many guys get so butthurt or aggressive when women say they don't need anybody?

Yes! I ask that and I'm a man and I don't understand other "men" getting triggered over self-sustainable women.
Women only realize there and then, that they dodged a huge bullet (you if it describes you).
They won't miss him. She's gonna be happy tonight and no one is going to ruin her evening by causing a storm sooner or later. If she's smart and if she wants to she'll simply find a calm and peaceful dude to spend time with.

No need to cause discord. Life's too short

Imagine the ditz, that decides to marry the butthurt and aggressive guy (and pop some kiddos with him)! Holy crap! On second thought, don't.

They hate or have no respect for women

They hate it, that they can't control women (financially or by force or physical threats)

They can't wait to spill out their own toxicity, so they might as well do it now

They think just because they are hurt it means they should hurt others and exact some sort of revenge and spit out verbal venom

They have serious anger management issues or mental disabilities

Looks like some of these men enjoy being troublemakers and drama

I've known some truly independent women, but none of them have ever had to tell anyone that they were independent - it was obvious - nor did they ever devalue or insult men.

The women who say that they are independent and don't need a man are the ones most likely to call me to do them a favor, or bemoan that there are no good men out there. They're also the ones who go insane if someone doesn't like their Twitter post or Instagram story. In other words, for the majority of those women, their "independence" is a sham.

And when you are my age, you'll have spent 20 years or so dealing with "independent women" who "don't need anything from a man" but sure need a lot of little favors done, still never pick up a check, and who are looking for a man to get with so she can quit her job that no longer excites her and who will pay off all her debts for her. Inevitably, she will want all the advantages of independence AND of traditional marriage with none of the responsibilities.

I'm not talking about all or even most women here, but specifically the self-proclaimed "independent women."

Yeah, I had a woman tell me she's independent. Later found out her ex bought her car for her, was still paying her car insurance, phone bill. These fake independent women have never actually purchased a vehicle or a home too.. Always a man did it for them.

Because it's a LIE. Because those women have used men in the past (or are using them currently), and intend to use you too. As I said, the women who have said those words to me are usually soon asking me for "favors" - "Can you fix my car?" "You know about computers, right?" "Do you have $40 I could borrow?" And if it's not me, I hear them asking some other guy.

"Independent women" is simply a code for "don't tell me what to do, I'm better than you, but stand by to bail me out of trouble whenever I do something stupid. And, no, don't expect me ever to return the favor."

Now, I don't personally get upset by these women - I simply let them be "independent" and I mostly ignore them - but I understand why some men get upset. Those men take these women at their word, and then realize that they've been deceived and used. Obviously these men are foolish and naïve - and I tell them so - but I still understand their pain and anger.

How would you feel about a man who proudly proclaimed "I am a strong and independent man and I do not need a woman"?

Sounds weird, doesn't it? Like he's tying to make some kind of silly statement. I wouldn't be "butthurt" about it, but I would not want to hang out with a guy like that. Same is true of women like that.

There is something odd about a woman who feels the need to proudly proclaim that she is an adult. It's kind of like saying she always wipes her ass after she shits. I mean, do you really need to say that?

And yes, QA, we do all know that you are a proudly strong and independent woman pretending to be a man on GAG.
