Why would a guy go from being approachable to standoffish?

There's a guy I know from a group of friends. For the longest time he acted very kind/friendly towards me. We could easily talk and joke around. He was approachable and I felt like we got along great. I noticed that he would consistently show me extra attention/do extra things for me. Others suspected he had a little crush on me. I just kept on normal interactions with him as he never expressed any feelings and I didn't want to make things awkward. Now he is like a totally different person with me. He gives off major "leave me alone" vibes. He looks so uncomfortable when he and I have to interact and he is quite rude. This has been going on for awhile now. I've tried asking him if he's ok or if I upset him and he just dodges the question.
He always has a pissed off attitude when we are around each other. It's very uncomfortable. Why would a guy change like this when we used to be friends?

He wanted a sexual and romantic relationship and now he assumes you don't want what he always wanted. He wasn't your friend, but an opportunist. It is guys like that who are dangerous because you emotionally invest in them and they treat you like the enemy. Avoid guys like that at all costs. You are not at fault, and I had to learn to resolve that guilt. I am still learning. Opportunists like that are not interested in relationships. He is not a man, he is a child. He did express their sadness. All that friendliness, doing things for you, was to get you interested in him. He sees it wasn't working now he's mad at you for not noticing and this is how guys "claim" how we used them, and placed them in the friendzone so they avoid friendship. Every time I hear or read something like this I cry because men like that bring nothing but trauma and pain you don't deserve.

Any advice on dealing with the guilt? It does hurt because I really did care about him or I guess I should say the person I thought he was. It hurts to know that I was wrong about him.

To be honest I really don't have much to say on that because it depends on you. I know for somebody like me that cares a lot about people it took me a lot of years to realize that and I'm still going through it. The only thing I can tell you is what was told to me. And what was told to me by God is that it wasn't my fault. How to only thing I can tell you is that is not your fault. You have to come to terms with that on your own. when guys are like that they're very selfish. And if you would have dated him like that forget about it. Again he wanted when he wanted from you. He's just going to continue to do that until he can find somebody who actually wants them in that way. And didn't use you as an excuse and a motivator for his decision when they had nothing to do with you. Had a lot to do with him. It's not like you knew about it. What it is is that you didn't want to assume too much about with what he may have wanted at the time. But, at the end of the day just remember this. You knew how you felt about him. It just may take a while to heal. And be very careful who you allow to get close to you.
