We don't know each other, but met at an event and have spoken briefly at a friend's party. Now he's texting me a lot. I've text him first too. He texts me random things, like a random joke, or how he's planning to make money through crypto. Or pictures of his travels. One night he told me he was going to see a famous astronaut speak, and yesterday he asked me "how's life in [my_name] world?" I was looking for a new job and he also asked how it was going. I recently got a new job and he said he's sure I'll be brilliant in my new role.

Does he just want a friend or something more? Even friends hang out, not just text. He is single by the way.

That is hard to say sometimes people get lonely and they have nobody to talk to and I myself we'll sit and talk for hours with someone I'm totally not interested in just because they're somebody to talk to their a friend.
It would be really hard to say without knowing the person.
But I would suspect that the person is looking for a chat buddy

make a few innuendos. if he responds to them, he probably doesn't wanna be just friends. however if a guy just randomly starts talking to a girl, i think it's a fairly safe bet that he doesn't wanna be just friends. at least not at this point.
