People who separate “comedy” and its ability to make you laugh by gender are usually one-tracked minds.
Honestly I won’t lie, from my experience I’ve met many people who say “women are not funny”. I don’t think it’s true. My guy and girl friends have made me and others laugh just fine.
People who say that seem to have this opinion from:
1. More male comedians than female comedians in popular media. I enjoy a good John Mulaney, but I haven’t found a female comedian with similar takes/style. They just don’t to seem popularized. And the ones who are popular usually have bad taste: John Mulaney’s more general relatable shows will be better with more of the population than some of Amy Schumer’s takes.
2. Probably not thinking of their words. It’s a common thing to say women aren’t funny. Said enough that enough people believe it lol. Doesn’t mean it’s normal. Anyone can be funny, and people who believe their “standard of comedy” is the only correct one are close-minded. Shouldn’t disregard people on the basis of their gender.
Don’t heed any negative feelings towards your boyfriend though. If it makes you uncomfortable just ask him not to say it, maybe explain how it makes you feel if you want. I’m firm guys wouldn’t like it if women said they weren’t funny from one example of a bad comedian.
He was implying that you are like a man in that sense
It's a common attitude, though it doesn't mean what you're probably thinking. See, most styles of comedy, especially among those popular in western culture nowadays, rely on having the ability to poke fun at oneself, which requires a level of personal security that many women lack. As a result, their humor tends to be more specialized in both style and topics, so while a male comedian whose joke flopped for you could make it up with a recovery one, female comedians often this harder to pull off.
The inherently subjective nature of "what constitutes 'funny'" also makes the idea of "women aren't" kind of self-reinforcing.
I’ve never really met a female who was funny. The only person I can kind of think of who may be a little funny but I think she is trying to hard, Angela Johnson. But she’s outdated. As for what he said to you, he was being funny himself as a joke. You let your feelings get the best of you, rather than laughing. I think men tend to have more fun then women, women seem to be miserable a lot.

I've never met a funny woman in my life.
No, women aren't funny and the only women that were funny are dead. Joan Rivers was the last one (that I can recall). Honestly, women who are funny are very rare.
He's a dumbass if he believes that.
