Why would a guy want to date someone, if you aren't his type?

Would you date someone, if you knew you aren't his preference/type?

Although he tells me I'm beautiful, all the girls and celebrities that my boyfriend has been attracted to or finds attractive, look completely different to me and have very different features (hair color, hair type, eye color, face shape, nose etc.) On the contrary, he finds girls that look like me unattractive.

Even his preferred female body type is different to mine.. This makes me feel extremely insecure and bad about myself, as I can stop comparing myself to them. I don't understand what he saw in me and can't solve the mystery, why he wanted to date me. I'm afraid he just settles for me and will dump me one day, when he finds someone better, or that I will never be enough. What's your opinion about this?

I would date someone even if they weren’t my type.

I usually prefer lean guys over ripped ones. However, if I liked the latter’s personality, then I would date him. I usually find dark haired guys attractive, but I’ve been attracted to blondes before as well. Some may have a definitive type and will not date anyone who doesn’t fit their criteria. For example - my friend is only into ripped guys with tan skin. She’s never been into pale guys or redheads.

Think about this, why would your boyfriend stay in a relationship with you if he did not find you attractive? Don’t be so insecure.. I get what you mean, but people can find others who are not their type attractive as well.

Some won't some will. Not really a definitive answer can be given here.
As to why they will, because often they end up getting a crush anyway and they cannot just ignore it. Then yes some just settle. Then some find that even better, In example Of I like you even tho your not my type as a good sign.

And your only talking about looks here. There is also not one type's by personality yet they date anyway.
It's more down to the subjectivity of the person, like most things.

It is. But it's a thing that exists lol. But that can be said about anything when it comes a person dating someone who is not they type. That's not saying it cannot work, because it can and does but it's always a bit strange i think.

Besides, trivial factors such as hair or eye color are just that, trivial.

Some of the women I found the most attractive throughout my life had hair and eye color that I didn't prefer, but at the same time some women who did have my preferred hair and eye color just didn't look as attractive as those women in spite of it.

This reminds me of the time this one girl I was dating when I was about 18 asked me. Back then I used to have a bunch of sexy monthly bikini models pictures on my wall.
