Confused as to why my ex would ask me this?

When my ex and I broke up he said he told his parents all the mean things he told me to my Face and then asked me why I stayed even when he was being mean? Like why would he even ask that? Was he trying to push me away by being mean so I would break up with him and he could be the victim? He was a narcissist jerk who was abusive mentally of me, I tried to be supportive of him through everything. He was the one who moved here for me... but why would he be mean to me to breakup with me than act like I was weird for staying even tho I loved him and he also said afterwards I changed which I didn’t. He would say the most hurtful things to me like “I don’t feel anything when your sad or I don’t want to touch you.” I would want to leave and then he would say “ you promised to stay, you can’t go I thought you loved me unconditionally.” When I wouldn’t want him he would want me more... I am so confused at this behavior. Would a man intentionally be mean to get his partner to breakup with him? Or to push him away? I would tell him to let me know when he needed space as well and he never would than blamed me for coming over too much... like what

Because his ego is damaged so he wanted to make it feel like it was his idea to break up with you and that he is one who wanted to leave... Don't believe him, you saw his true colors, he didn't act bad because he wanted you to break up with him, he acted in a bad behavior because he has a bad personality nothing more... and if he is a narcissist like you said then he can't truly love anyone but himself, no matter what you do, no matter how good you are, he will always think that you're not good enough, he will always put the blame on you, he will always makes you feel like he is better than anyone else... So you did the right thing by breaking up with him... try to get up and focus on healing and you will someone much better than him for sure

Why did you stay when he was being mean? I'm guessing most people would have ended the relationship. He wants to know the real reason why you stuck around when he was being an asshole
