Basically a coworker I have a crush on came across me in the stairwell today. He was going up and i was going down. When he made eye contact with me he turned around quickly and went back down. Then he stood there until i walked down. I was so confused about whether this is because he's respectful, whether he likes me or just because of covid? I wasn't wearing a mask.

Yeah. I would. It is common in UK to hold the door or wait before the stairs if someone is coming down unless you're rushing.
