Is it a good sign if a guy gradually gets more shy around a girl?

I've bee. Seeing this guy since my first year of college and he was in his last year. We started off well, became friends but not very close, then I noticed he was treating me differently and better than others. A few weeks later he started making it more obvious that he likes me. I was a little unsure of him. He graduated but still stuck around college waiting for a job offer. By this time I noticed he was getting a bit more shy and his best female friend (married) knew who I was so clearly he was talking about me. Then he got a job. The one day he only said hi to me and nothing else. I tried starting a conversation with him and he was so nervous I could hear his voice shake. The day after that, he was so shy he couldn't even say hi. He just looked at me curiously from a distance many times. Now it's still like that and even worse now that I've shown interest.

Is this typical?

There is no way you can know exactly what is going through his head without discussing it directly with him. It is possible for people to become shier as they invest more and so have more to lose. This can continue until the relationship becomes familiar, the person feels safe and the fear dissipates. It is also possible he just saw you as a friendly acquaintance and was involved with someone else. This may have led him to feel guilty with conflicting feelings when he realized you were actually interested in him. Not knowing what to say, he may have chosen to say nothing.

I wouldn't say typical. Every guy is different and shyness affects them differently. I am shy too, but I will "warm up" to a girl with some time. I won't say much or anything at all if I feel I have nothing else to say.
