Why do so many men I date admit to want to use me as arm candy?

one guy I went on a date with said he wanted to walk to dinner with me because it’d boost his ego to be seen with a stunning woman. He also told me people probably think he’s rich because how else would he have snagged me? Also another guy I’ve been dating is much older (like 38 and I’m 26) and he doesn’t seem to care much about me like super deeply. It’s all surface stuff like if he catches other men staring at me, how good we look together, how stunning and hot I look, how I’m the hot one in the relationship, etc.
