Guy friend always say he fits the type of guy I am looking for?

I have a guy friend who would ask me about what kind of guy I am looking for from time to time. When I state my values, he says “oh I am also like this and this” which makes it sound like he likes me.

What confuses me is he is looking to date and would tell me who he is meeting or what he finds attractive (opposite) from me. Is this normal behavior from guys?

Of he likes you. Why else would he say "I'm the kind of guy you're looking for?" He's trying to tell you he likes you without beating you over the head with it so he has plausible deniability if you don't feel the same about him.
