Guys, what would make you distance yourself from a girl/interest?

I have known this guy for about a year. When we first meet, I just got out of a relationship and wasn't expecting to like anyone. When I started to like him, I tried to hide it, but he asked me if I did. After that, we kinda had a weird relationship. We would just have fun flirting. One day he asked for my number and started to text me and we would talk on the phone for hours. Last week he told me he needed to tell me something and that he'll call me. When he did, he asked me out on a date. He told he couldn't do it this week but the next. When next week came, he was acting off, so I pulled him aside to talk. He said he was going through some things and that he didn't mean to make me worry. He tried being his happy self when I am around him, but not texting. He doesn't text me anymore and always say he is super busy, but won't go into detail about what really. He'll just say stuff around the house. I just took it as him saying he wants me to leave him alone. We work together, but when I see him he acts like nothing changed. He'll talk to me and tries to make me laugh or blush. I don't know what's going on. I'm just lost to how everything changed over the weekend.

This is a bad answer but sometimes our own insecurities. Like if we feel we are going downhill in the relationship. perhaps not seeing eye to eye, where loyalty on her end is a liability. We may keep the window open for opportunity, or just try to present some mystery.
